I'm using BB to play a Real Tracks pedal steel part. At the end of the song I want it to play single notes rather than chords.

Is this possible, and if so, how?

Thanks.

Maybe but most likely not

RealTracks are generally audio recordings of chords, not notes.

PG Music has released rhythm, background and soloist pedal steel guitar RealTracks. You might be able to find some steel guitar notes played in the soloist RealTracks.

All the pedal steel guitar sample based loops I've auditioned are also chord based and do not have individual notes.

Your best bet for pedal steel guitar notes is likely to look at virtual instruments.

The only way to do that I know of is with a polyphonic wav editor. I use Melodyne for this task. I would bring in the RT and delete the notes I wanted deleted and possibly extend the remaining note. The down side is the polyphonic version of Melodyne is expensive. However I'm sure there are other wav editors that can do the job that are less expensive. DL some demos and give them a try.

So BIAB gave us a new feature in 2023 which permits one to isolate RT instruments to be "played" by midi. I can't for the life of me remember what this feature is call, but more surprizing I can't find any reference to it in my seaches. Something like "editable RTs", done in the notation window. ChatBIAB acted like it doesn't exist! And I can't locate the new feature PG videos for 2023. So before I determine if this can help or not, can some one help my memory?

Dan, I think you're referring to 'Playable RealTracks' ?
I think this is done through the piano-roll editor.

I think I actually have that polyphonic version of Melodyne. I'll have to try that.

And that Playable RT sounds like it would do the trick. Unfortunately I'm still on the 2019 version. Maybe this is the year I'll finally update BB.

Thanks to all of you for your replies.

Something that might help is to add an additional RealTrack soloist for the pedal steel, which gives a better chance of a single note, then mute suitably for the ending.

How well the two tracks will work depends upon finding a good, very similar, sound. That may prove tricky with a pedal steel.

Here is "Playable RTs":

Quote
You can now customize the RealTracks performance by adding your own notes. You will then hear those notes using a MIDI sound created from the RealTracks recording. This means you can get the RealTracks to play the notes you want at key parts of the performance, either augmenting or replacing what the RealTracks is playing, for any sections in the song.

Band-in-a-Box® 2022 introduced a new feature "Playable RealTracks," and this set of new "Hi-Q" sforzando sounds gives you the tools you need to use it! This cool feature allows you to add MIDI notes to the same RealTrack that is playing, either at the same time, or alternating back and forth. And these sounds were all made to correspond with specific RealTracks, and in most cases were created using the same instrument, and by the same RealTracks artist. This means you can get the RealTracks to play the notes you want at key parts of the performance, either augmenting or replacing what the RealTracks is playing, for the section you want to change. This set adds OVER 300 new sounds to your collection, giving you more control over your music than ever before
!

Now let me see if there is a "Hi-Q" sound for the Steel Guitar ?

OK, the Playable Sounds are present in C:\bb\DX Settings\Playable RealTracks. And there are dozens of them specific to Steel. Let us know how it works for you.

Yes, I totally agree, because of the usual long sustain of these notes. It's worth a try, though.
