I'll Never Learn

This project started 5 years ago, I created that interesting chord progression and found very nice instrumentation, but I didn't finish it, because I felt that the song needed a powerful horn section, but I thought that it would require quite much work. Recently, I decided to give it a try. First, I tried micro chords for horn RTs, but either they created silence for micro chords parts or something unlistenable. Then I tried playable RTs, but the sound was terrible. Then I found #3998 RT, it had wrong feel, but in double-time it sounded quite interesting and close to my original idea and I thought that with partial regeneration I could add the best sections. Unfortunately, partial regeneration generated silence in double-time frown I guess this is a known bug... I tried to generate multiriffs in BIAB Plugin, but guess what... it generated only one riff in double-time, the rest were in normal time... so I gave up, combined two tracks I had and finished the song. I will get back to this song when double-time partial regeneration works if ever... but I hope this version is bearable enough for your ears smile

Lyrics:

I'll never learn
if you don't tell me
what I'm doing wrong
(what I'm doing wrong)
I'll never grow
if you don't show me
where I'm not yet strong
(where I'm not yet strong).

Been so long reclusive
no-one taught me human math
I've been sweating
on life's footpath
used to odors
so I've never
felt the need to take a bath
silence is the foe
of my rational mind
show me all my faults
don't let me be so blind.

I'll never learn...

Tell me if I'm distant
and I'll kiss you on your nose
please awake me
from the shadows
of my dreaming
and I'll beg forgiveness
with chocolate and a rose
you should know that I'm
still an ignorant kid
learning how to act
in a relationship.

I'll never learn...

I was not expecting you to be polite
I wished to hear uprightness
to learn to do things right.
But now that you are gone
in the mirror a puzzled face
asks me in a quiz
did you forget the embrace?

Good song..yes, the horns - potential underachieved.
Mix wise the vocal sits "above" the band.
I look forward to you feeling satisfied.

Its kind of a blues, and theatrical at the same time. Nice use of Synth V vocals, both lead and backing vocals. Sounds like it could be in a Broadway production.

Good stuff, Janne, you always come up with unique lyrical themes. Vocals sound good.

Track sounds good, listened a couple of times.

Love the outro with the sax and the guitar trading licks, nice!

Good song!

Janne, wild song! Those horns sound cool, like how they turned out. The BGVs are very groovy, too. The harmonic structure and arrangement do a great job conveying the narrator's feelings. Just an expertly conceived and executed song all the way around.

Thanks Elliott for your pleasant feedback smile Didn't expect to hear "Broadway production" in the context of this song, but I like the idea smile

Good song!

Thanks Dave for your generous feedback smile Glad you liked the outro, sometimes it is hard to decide to have a sax or the guitar, this time they both sounded good together so I kept them both. But I had to remove 6 bars from the end, even though I liked them, I thought that they would be too much for most of the listeners. BIAB instruments just sound so professional that is hard to say no more wink

Janne,

Really original and imaginative melody to this that kept my attention. The chorus is particularly engaging. The horns worked fine for me. The vocaloid has just the right feel to bring the most out of the tune. Good stuff!!

I really like the progression and the melody you filled it with, and another super job with the synths. Very high-caliber composition, and an outstanding production. With all the magic from the band you did an excellent job bringing the vocals to a clear front. Horns are good too. I understand your frustration with the micro chords, but they're coming along. The regeneration is so much better these, especially allowing just one measure regeneration.

Enjoy whatever happens!

We also get the theatrical vibe that was mentioned by Elliot. With the layered horns, guitars and synth vocals it is a big production.

The outro was exceptionally good with the swapping between the sax and guitar.

“… sometimes it is hard to decide to have a sax or the guitar, this time they both sounded good together so I kept them both.” Great decision!

You always have a thoughtful lyric and interesting chord progression. Most enjoyable, Janne!

You created an interesting sound. You might have gotten what you wanted out of the horn tracks, but the sound is unique. Excellent work with the synth voices. I agree that this would make a good show tune. The sax solo sounds made for the song.

Hi Janne,

It's been some time since hearing another song of you. Don't know if I missed one the last months.
But... this is a song only you can make. A genuine Janne-sound! And that means it's a very good song!

Like the low voice of lead synth and the harmony of the two synths.
That is also the case with the melody, the theatrical twist in it, as J&B and Elliot mentioned, was very interesting.

Your search for good horns, that fit in this song, too a long time as I read.
Together with the sax at the end, they work very good.
Only at some point in the beginning of your song (at 0.42 I think) they sounded being 'out of rhythm. I listened several times and kept this feeling.
Luckily you called this song I'll never learn... (if you don't tell me what I'm doing wrong). That's why I dare telling it to you.
No one else mentioned it, so I'm could be very wrong. Then you can learn me how to listen...

Have a very nice day, Janne
Hans
