Here's a song I wrote in 1980 and I've revisited it with the Synth V voices...it's a slow swing with orchestra...I hope you like it...Dan

Dan,

Great song. The BIAB style you chose works so well with your melody. Also, this is a really crisp mix - really excellent.

I have to say, those Synth voices are amazing here. You have raised the bar...

Hi, Dan.

Nice to hear you're bringing new life to old songs with SynthV.

Easygoing swing, nice arrangement - especially the strings and piano.

Edit: Since I'm editing this post to fix typos, I'll also mention that the vocal is too far back for my preference. Then again, I probably put my vocals a bit too front and center, so apply grains of salt liberally. wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Good write. A lovely melody.
Nice use of BIAB with impressive additions from you and the Genos. Nice strings.
Very impressive piano!
Good mix.

Very nicely done.

The vox are exceptionally good. Nice arrangement and sweet harmonies.

One nit I have is that the vocals are too far down in the mix for this genre. The vocals and the message are the important things and should be on top and out front.

Other than that, this is good.

David and Herb...thanks so much for your advice about the vocals...I remixed and brought them up in the mix and tweaked some other stuff as well...this is what I like about reviews...good suggestions...Dan

Dan, I don't listen to a lot of P&W, but this strikes me as an original stylistic adaptation, and I really enjoyed it. Love the opening and the transition to the next section. Also love when the harmonies kick in and the unexpected guitar break. Those BGVs are sweet, too, as is the BIG ending. Great arrangement and choices to sustain a LONG song. That's hard for me to do, and I learn a lot listening to your songs. Am not smart enough to offer constructive input on the vocals, but there's something that doesn't sound as nuanced (to me) as some of your most recent stuff. But I enjoyed your song a LOT. Funny how fresh 1980 can sound!

Dan,

Gorgeous opening . . . really engaging swing style. The vocaloids work well—those harmonies on the chorus are lovely. Great mix! Like the whole jazzy oldies throwback feel, married to he gospel lyric. Excellent work!

Hi Dan,

Great intro! Love the piano and the strings. Nice swing groove!

Vocals are sitting in the mix perfectly for me, so I guess I'm listening to your updated mix. Great harmonies!

Really well done and a pleasure to listen to as per usual smile

Ron...it is a LONG song so I tried to do the second half a bit different than the first...I figure it's an album cut and not a single...I do wish I had a better lead guitar in the second part...I haven't exhausted the BiaB Real tracks yet but I haven't found the right one yet either...I really want that solo to be a guitar piece and less piano...we'll see...hey thanks again...Dan

Wow, GREAT paino work, sir. You are such a consistently good writer, Dan. Strings surround the singing perfectly. You are really good with the synths, and you are extra good with your own singing. Just saying. Very good dynamics and your signature outstanding mix. Love it all!! Yeah, I like the "album" cut. If I had the 45, I'd feel cheated.

By the way, 6 minutes is nothing. Usually when I go to your site I sit and listen to whatever pops up next, and often find myself a half hour late for something.

Hello Dan,

It is a nice thing, reviving an old song and make it sound good.
And that's exactly what you did.
But, there is always a 'but', as far as I know your own voice is very good too.
And there was a woman (forgot her name) with a very nice voice too. Together you were great!
Why did you chose the synth vocals instead? On the other hand it is always good to try things out.

I think it's a very beautiful song, but I agree with Izzy about the use of human voices, especially because of what I wrote about your singing.

Hans

Hans...great to hear from you...thanks for your comments about my voice...I'm having trouble with it so I've adopted the Synth V voices to help me out so i can continue to record...unfortunately Amber "the woman" is far far away and I see rarely...but thanks for your kind comments...Dan
