This plug in never ceases to amaze me - and not in a good way! As you see in the pic Reaper has a tempo map. The BIAB-VST GUI is showing a "blinking" blinking tempo which show frational tempo, But it will not stop blinking and it and will not allow me to "generate". I seem to remember that the VST did not allow fractional tempo. Is that still the case??

This is a Real Life Project - not some made up demo from BIAB - so it appears I just found another reason this app is not ready for prime time.

Deja Vue anyone?

I'm not sure about the plug-in, but BIAB has never supported floating point tempos. It's been on the wish list since forever.

RealBand does have floating point tempo support, so presumably the plug-in should be able to do the same, but if it relies on the BIAB back-end, that 'blinking' might be its way of telling you it can't do this?

I think I need to clarify. Following the tempo map for audio tracks is not necessarily what I need. The real problem here is I that I can't even generate any tracks since the Plugin see's there is a tempo map present and therefore does not generate the tracks since the plugin automatically reads the tempo and sees that it has decimal points. So the plugin does not work when you have a fractional tempo map or for that matter, a changing tempo in the song. I never noticed this before, but certainly others would have and there has been little said here.

I see several years ago this was a big topic here in the forum. I never saw the problem in the past since I only recently discovered how to use a tempo map. Could this all be true?

It is one thing for the VST to not support a tempo map, but another thing to not even work when one is present. And by the way, BIAB has always created a tempo map from the ACW and works fine with that. However, I believe this was always an odd workaround in that the tempo was not really mapped but a % of the tempo was created to simulate a tempo map. It was then the % which was used to change the rate for the track at each bar.

Dan,

I don't know a great deal about the VST. I am curious, though. Have you tried turning the "Synch to host" off to see if the plugin then generates the tracks? This might let you get the backing tracks you want at a tempo that is an integer average of the tempo map in Reaper. If this does work, the tracks could be then rendered from the VST with acidized information which should then follow Reaper's tempo map.

OK, I see the issue. Sorry to waste your time. Nothing new here, it is the same problem I have had for the entire year. My mistake was I keep thinking this will work. Fact is I have promised myself I will stop using this. So I am marking this resolved because I want nothing more to do with it.

DDan.

NOTE DONT DUMP ALL OVER ME...if following dont work !!
its experimental ideas !

its sometimes/often a prob locking two different music apps or devices...been there done.

have you experimented with rb ? which has tempo maps and fractional tempo features ?

i typically keep it simple....ie useing a common song dir for reaps and rb.
and say genning the tracks in rb and dragging into reaps making sure the genned tracks go into the same song dir as reaps recorded tracks.

heres some ideas to think about and maybe test out...

1. lay out SAME tempo map in reaps and rb.
and gen tracks in rb and drag across to reaps.
does this work ? also test out rb in plugin mode.
(ENSURE YOU SET UP REAPS AND RB TO USE SAME SONG DIR.)

2..rb has various time code options...ive never used but...
thus rb should follow code as a master or slave to another time code capable app/device.

3..maybe reaps REWIRE might help ?
i dont use it. as i use the point 1 method.

https://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReWire

or this ??

https://reaper.blog/2022/01/rearoute-reastream-tutorial/

see you tube for more info re use.
as i'm very busy doing songs.

believe me when i say ive had my share of frustrations over many years syncing...try it with tape machines...lol.

i know its frustrating but please dont dump all over me if none of the above work.
YMMV//COVER MY REAR...and all the usual caveats...lol.

sometimes the individual gotta do a load of testing so as to find something that might work.

maybe the reaps forum might help viz how to interface two daws like rb and reaps to enable all to sync up....eg you have 10 tracks in reaps you want to play in sync with 12 rb genned tracks.

maybe you might ask on the reaps forum for people that have successfully synced reaps and another daw so all tracks in both daws play back in sync...i'm sure someones done it.
then try it out with rb and reaps.

UPDATE...(i like a challenge...lol.)

not there yet but i DID manage to set up rb to wait for time code.
ie to be a slave. (both reaps and rb have time code features.)
now its a question of how to route reaps timecode on a track to rb.
ive set up the timecode track in reaps of course.
does anybody know how to route the reaps timecode to rb ??
this is what i'm struggling with.
the idea being when play is made in reaps the generated tracks in rb sync up. (note rb has a sync feature for time code.)
i assume both reaps and rb need of course to have the same tempo map. maybe pg can offer any ideas ? cos i'm not sure of next steps.

vice versa ie rb as master and reaps as slave i dont see in reaps a 'wait
for time code feature' ??

happiness.

om

Hi Dan, the blinking tempo indicator is just a visual indicator to show that the tempo in the plugin does not match the tempo in the DAW. It does not prevent you from generating your tracks at the plugin tempo (in your case it is 116). When you press the GENERATE button do you not get tracks generated at a tempo of 116?

Of couse I did not. You and I both know why this does not work. We have know for months. My problem is I forgot it is not working and I keep falling into the same rabbit hole. I thought this was something new, but it ain't.

I suggest you delete this interior thread since this has nothing to do with tempo maps.
