Bourbon County Stomp

I originally posted this one 8 or 9 years ago. I touched it up a bit with Audacity last week. It's an up-tempo, knee-slapping, foot-stomping Bluegrass brawl.

I can't find the list of RTs, but it's all BIAB. I didn't do anything other than select a few RTs, put in a few chords, and then click on the "generate" button.

I no longer have the individual tracks, so I couldn't do as much "reshaping" as I would like to have done. The one issue I would change if I could is that the lead acoustic guitar riff should be panned a little closer to center as it's too close to the right channel rhythm guitar. I knew very little about mixing at that time. Don't know a lot more now! This is the best I could get it. I EQ'ed the stereo mix to make the acoustic somewhat louder than the rhythm guitar in this version vs the original version.

I hope to have a truly new one soon. Time is hard to come by at the moment.

Alan

Alan, cool hoedown fer sure! Think the mix sounds fine and clear, and the lead guitar placement isn't distracting (to me). BiaB has some fine up tempo bluegrass styles that we don't hear enough of on the forum, and you've done a great job weaving a tune on this one. Thanks for bringing it back for us!

Edit: Forgot to add...Love the ending where the bass drops out for a measure. Your attention to detail is always fun to listen to.

Hi Al, regardless of your personal preference mixing your songs, this one sounded great in my cans. A sure toe tapping!
I know, is a pain not being able to post the BIB file, since we all learn from that. It has happened to me too.

Cheers

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Great bluegrass instrumental
Super RT choices and a great mix.

Thanks a bunch, Ron. I knew very little about mixing back then ... maybe a little bit more. As far as the ending, it was the only way i could fimd to put an exclamation point that the song was about to end.

I appreciate your very nice comments.

HI Mike,

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks! I have about 40 songs I created in BIAB for which I no longer have a list of the tracks or the individual stems. I had a massive computer fail that destroyed both my hard drive and the thumb stick I had in the USB port.. I now keep a copy of all that on a portable SSD.

Take care,

Alan

This is excellent bluegrass. Reminds me a little of Poco's "Fools Gold". Also of a song I co-wrote with a friend in the 70s which began as a ballad, then turned into a hoedown which began, "Now roll them papers three-by-three / Keep your eyes peeled for the deputy". 

Hi Dan,

Those are some very nice comments. Thank you very much.

And yes, BIAB is fabulous music-creation software that often makes composing good music relatively easy. BIAB, coupled with creative and well-thought input, can provide the recipe for some great sounds. It has certainly elevated my composing skills. However, great input from forum members has played a large role in that process.

Again, many thanks.

Alan

Chay,

Thank you for your nice comments. "Fool's Gold" is a flattering reference.I like that "three-by-three" and "deputy" couplet!

I'll be over to comment on your recent post in a day or two. I had a medical emergency Thursday evening, but I'm doing better now. Just taking it slow and easy for a while.

Take care,

Alan

J&B,

Thanks for the listen and nice comment. I'm aware of your Bluegrass background and Bud's stand-up bass magic.

Growing up, I wasn't a big Bluegrass fan. But Alison Kraus, Nickel Creek, The New Grass Band, and Ricky Scaggs brought me around.

Wishing ya'll the very best.
