OK! My disclaimer...I'm SLOOW! ALL I want to do is import a simple MIDI file (actually 1 MIDI track) into BIAB so BIAB can then create bass line, AND chord accompaniment. See, I'm a drummer. OK! enuf with the jokes. I DO appreciate that BIAB DOES have quite comprehensive instructions and support. THAT much I'm not complaining about, I just want something simple. Have mercy on me.

Hi KC,
On the top menu choose "Melody" and then select "Edit Melody Track" and then "Import Melody from MIDI file". This might do the job.
You'll find that you'll have check marks for every MIDI channel. You probably only need to have MIDI channel one selected as the main melody is usually written to that channel.
If this doesn't work, simply try opening the MIDI file using the File menu and the "Open Midi File Option".
Regards, Noel

Yes, Do what Noel said. however, be sure to check the 2 measure lead-in on the dialogue box so that your midi syncs with the BB song.

Thanks Guys,
OK, I did what Noel said, and it said it imported 353 events. That sounds about right. Now, here's my next problem. I opened up the "Generate Melody and/or Chords" dialogue because I wanted BIAB to generate chords ONLY. Of course, I UNchecked "Generate Melody". I picked the MelSmJazz.ST2 style to play it, but it's nowhere on the entire drive, let alone in the "bb" root directory. In fact, there's only 15 ST2 files. AARRGGHH!!! I've got ver. 2006, and just upgraded to Build 224, and it still didn't give me what I needed.
While you're kindly responding to my request, pls advise in detail on how to generate chords in whatever style I choose. As I mentioned above, in the "Generate Melody and/or Chords" I UNchecked "Generate Melody". If there's anything else I need to do? I'm going to read the manual once again.
Thanks, KC

Sounds to me like you want to import a melody line and then have BIAB generate a chord progression based on that melody line. Is that correct?
If so, yes BIAB can do that (sort of), but I don't think you're going to be very happy with the results. It's better to find a MIDI file that already has accompaniment (and perhaps the melody) and bring that into BIAB. BIAB will do a much better job of figuring out the correct chord progression. The problem with just using a melody line is that there are so many different chord options when you're basing it on single notes, and the resulting chord progression may not sound very good.
One thing you might want to try in this case is Microsoft SongSmith.

As a drummer, if you really don't know chords then let us know what tune it is, there's a bunch of sites around that have literally thousands of Biab songs, chances are your song already exists and you just download it and open it up. Still doesn't mean whoever made it put in the right chords but it's a start. While Biab can do a fair job of figuring out chords from a midi file, it's really designed for the user to manually input them into the chord grid.
