One for the boss

Hymn & Me

Boring bitz
I love Southern Baptist Gospel music and I thought that using 12/8 would give me the extra "pulse" to find the groove I was after. To the credit of biab I was able to structure the entire architecture of this song using OURSAKE.STY (Our Sake Emotional 12-8 Soul Pop)
and AG_BESS.STY (Blues Gospel w/ Organ). But alas I was wrong using 12/8 and to get the required sweet spot I had to use 6/8.
A cursory search in biab for 6/8 tracks yielded slim results (i did not search deeply). Fortunately some musician colleagues came to my rescue and volunteered to play organ and bass. Problem solved. I then aquired a 6/8 drum pattern from UTube and used EZKeys for piano.

Izzy...you certainly captured the spirit of the hymn in this one...the recording sounds like it was made at a church service...it has a homemade nuance to it and a spiritual vibe all through it...this was totally different than anything I've heard on the forum...Southern Baptist Gospel is a good way to describe it though I would call it "spiritual Americana"....very uplifting!

Izzy, super job! My Southern Baptist church music experience never got this rambunctious, which is a shame. Are you doing all the vocals? They're pretty wild, in a good-wild way. That's a nice piano, too. Where is that from? Sorry for the questions, the "boring bitz" are the learning part for me. Anyway...enjoyed it!

Izzy, this is a fantastic song.
Loved the vocal and lyrics!
Super mix.

PS - where did those backing vocals come from?

Izzy,

Heartfelt and powerful. The groove perfectly matches the character of the message and vocal. A powerful song with a strong message.

In other words - ya did good! (Actually, ya did excellent!)

Best to you,

Alan

Hi, Izzy.

It's got that pulse, all right. Fun! laugh

Love the choir swooping down to join you.

I would call it "spiritual Americana

Hi Ron
Thanks for your comments about my "rambunctious" hymn ( hee hee , I love that word :))
Quote
Are you doing all the vocals?

Yes. My neighbors, hearing me screaming like a banshee whilst recording the "choir" parts would be of the opinion that I am a raving lunatic!
This is the piano.
my best to you.

Thankyou for listening and nice comments Mario.

PS - where did those backing vocals come from?

Yours truely. In the absence of helium balloons I pretended that i was a strangled cat and just let rip. Individually the tracks sound ghastly but there is safety in
numbers when assembling a "choir".
cheers Mario

Thanks Dewey.
I was going to name it "Take me to Church" but that was taken, so while out walking "Hymn & Me" just struck me. I think it works phonetically as well
descriptively . I wonder where thes things come from?..........hmmmmm.
thanks again Dewey.

What an terriic title and an excellent production to bring it out. Inspirational sounds. Very uplifting, Izzy. Yes, good choice on the 6/8 signature; it's like a double-waltz with a stronger feel. Outstanding harmony, too.

Enjoy whatever happens!
