I've been hard pressed to find some nice 50's rock and roll styles in BIB.

I'd like to find some styles for songs like "Lucille," and "Be Bop A Lula."

Any suggestions? Thanks...

For
Be Bop A Lula here's a suggestion:
You really need to have (if you want a good guitar backing)
_CBOOGMS Country Boogie Med(140) with real bass, drums and 2 guitars.

Insert the rights chords and the Shots were it goes (in the key of E)
"(E.d)She’s the woman in the red blue jeans" for 2 bars then "(E.d) blah, blah," again for 2 bars etc
I don’t think Peter likes us putting actual chords of tunes up on the forum for legal reasons, but its pretty easy (E, A7, B7) is all you need.
I just did this in a few minutes added some reverb to the guitars and panned each left and right and it all sounds v good.

Hope this gets you started.

Seems like PG music should have thought of putting some 50's styles in years ago;
I mean, most everyone likes old rock and roll!

Hey Ray (Isn't that a song?)

Anywho, may I suggest that you stroll on over to Bob "Notes" Norton's website. He's got some burning 50s styles, and a whole lot of related styles too.

Ray,
You might also try the Ultimate Guitar Tableture to find Lucille. If you have a tab reader such as Protabs or Guitar Pro, you can save the song as a midi and import it into Real Band or BB to get what you want. Usually all the accompaning band instruments are there.

Well Ray the real tracks are worth getting because many 50’s styles are essentially 12 bar blues and sound great with real guitars played by real mus… (Golly I’m starting to sound like the PGMusic ads (lol)). But seriously, real tracks have turned B&B from a rather limpy thing for me into a fabulous product for us guitarists/piano players (Yes I was alive during the 50's).

OK here is another example using the Boogie style for the tune "Sentimental Journey" an old (maybe not quite 50’s but close) by Doris Day but done with nice crunchy sounding real guitars (an added pedal steel).

There tons of them, what version and stylepak's do you have? There's the Chuck (Berry) styles, the Jerry Lee piano styles, there's the Elvis ones, the Dr. John rockin New Orleans styles and I know there's more. A lot of the country styles are good for 50's R & R too. They don't just come with the program, they're part of the different packages or you can get them separately. Understand PG can't use the actual artist names in the styles without paying big bucks for them, that's the reason for the cryptic style names.

Is this Boogie Style & _CBOOGMS Country Boogie Med(140) from the same style pack?

What style pack is that?

I hope people don’t mind me pushing this thread into the 60’s for a moment but some may be interested what you can do with a basic slightly cheesy midi style sound and adding real instruments to improve it. The same method can be used of course for 50’s tunes.

I wanted a backing for “Downtown” originally of course by Petula Clark.

I started with “TEMPTN2-60’s Med-Slow Gro SD#48” style. Here’s a bit of the original.

http://www.box.net/shared/4kfs6nhdl3

Well not all that exciting is it.!, but it has the basis of a Motown beat that we need.
So first thing to do is to replace that awful midi drumming with a real drummer (RealDrums Nashville Even 8 HiHat Ride). Replace the dreary bass with a real bass 539 Bass,Electric, Pop Sw 120 and add two real guitars (405 Guitar Acoustic Strumming Ev 120; 509 Guitar, Electric Rhythm Dire Ev 120) in the “Melody” and “Solo” slots in B&B. Keep the other midi parts, they add to the beat. OK set the tempo higher at 125 and lets see how that sounds:

http://www.box.net/shared/mr3tef0hzu

Well, a lot better I think.

Finally, drag and drop all instruments into Sonar (or RB); adjust the instruments volumes; plug in a stratocaster into the UA-4FX interface and use the GS-201 tape echo plug-in to do two takes and set these tracks in the left and right channels to play together. This example is actually an outtake because a few mistakes plus a couple of other hiccups crept in on the lead guitar part. But it’s a start and gives a flavour at least of what is possible.

It’s not always evident when listening to the styles that they might fit in. You have to play around with them and mix in other ingredients to make them sound better. But the possibilities are enormous with the tools provided by B&B midi and real tracks.

Sorry for bumping this thread up again but my buddy guitarist who did the lead on the Downtown outtake tune was a bit concerned that it had entered cyberspace with some mistakes.

As he correctly pointed out he had only learnt the tune less than 5 mins before we did the two takes.

OK well he can now rest easy with the knowledge that this point has been explained in the forum. (nudge, nudge wink, wink, he’s a bit a savant (without the syndrome) when it comes to learning and playing tunes)

Hoyt Axton wrote a tune called "Officer Ray." It is not complimentary to the party in question. Funny, though.
