Hello:

I have my BB folder on my C Drive. It is taking an immense amount of space and so I want to move it to one of the other drives on my computer if possible.

What is the best way to do that without breaking something?

Thanks for your help.

Michael

Hi. Oh yes, it's certainly possible. We just had another thread about this, although the request was more complicated.

First, back up any songs you have written and any custom styles you may have created, just to be safe.

Is this a Windows computer, or Mac?

Are you quite comfortable moving files and folders? If not, please contact PG Music Support (see the Tab, above). We fellow users cannot take any responsibility for you losing files, although if you have your external USB drive from PG Music, you can always reinstall.

These instructions are for Windows. Mac would be a similar process by dragging folders but I can't help with that. If you are comfortable proceeding, make a folder on your 'other' internal drive (I'll call it Drive E for this example) and name that folder BB, so the location would be E:/BB

Then using a file manager utility (I use Total Commander but File Explorer will do) copy the C:/BB/RealTracks folder to E:/BB and copy C:/BB/Drums to E:/BB so those two folders appear under E:/BB

Copying the RealTracks folder especially may take a long time!

Go into BIAB and use the Options, Preferences, RealTracks and choose a Custom location. It would be E:/RealTracks.

Do the same process for Options, Preferences, Drums choosing E:/Drums

Test BIAB

Once you are sure everything works, you can consider deleting the two folders on your C drive, C:/BB/RealTracks and C:/BB/Drums

If this is the real tracks and the real drums, it's a simple process of copying it to the new location and then going into the setting in BB and redirecting the program to look for the files in the new location.

Another way to do this is to save all of your projects in a different folder which you should be doing anyway..... and then remove the program and reinstall it using the minimal install, leaving the big stuff on the hard drive and installing only the essentials on the C drive

OR... do a custom install and tell it to install your big folders (the real tracks) on the drive you want.

I always use the minimal install using the factory HD for the big stuff.

For those of us with the Audiophile edition, these two folders occupy nearly 2TB drive space. BIAB is no slower if you read those files directly from the hard drive that is shipped to us. As Hetb says, it's simple to show BIAB where they are located,
