My Last Goodbye on Soundcloud
My Last Goodbye on YouTube

A song possibly about regrets, but mostly about love. In nearly every song I write, it seems, the melody is a bit different in each verse. It's usually very subtle, but in this one it is quite obvious. It's the last song on an album that lands on streaming channels on the 7th.

Style is _WESTGTR.STY (Spirited Country Strumming)

I just sang and played bass.

My Last Goodbye

There's just no way that I explain there are no words to try.
I leave you my love, but still it's a shame
I never got to say my last goodbye

We all go on ready or not. No special rules for the chosen apply.
To the folks that left before me, and the ones I left behind,
I never got to say my last goodbye.

We often need little more time before we're off with our harps in the sky.
As for me I need to whisper to all my planet mates,
"Thanks for the trip," and throw by last goodye.

Goodbye to trees and rocks that grow with them.
Goodbye to the seas and the clouds in the sky.
I love what you gave me in colors and rhythm.
I bow to all my last goodbye.

With all my love I drown out regrets,
and all the wrongs I forgive and deny.
Remeber how I meant it and please don't question why
I never got to say my last goodbye.

Let's go on together and never ever part.
There's no space or time for us to rely upon.
To the folks that left before me, and the ones I left behind,
I never have to say my last goodbye.

Marty,

That's an excellent and heartfelt song... You sing it so beautifully with a lot of emotion.

Love the band and the mix is perfect.

Marty, cool tune and super vocals. Nice little ending, too. Love how you let the song dictate the vocal delivery and aren't a slave to the melody, or anything else. All your stuff is thoughtful and musical. Sometimes we get a last goodbye, sometimes we don't...

The intro is fab. the rest is too but the intro pulled me in...did its job well.
Cool band and great bass tone...sometimes I thought the bass was too busy and other times I told myself that was daft. Regardless your bass work serves the song well.
The vocal equiv. of a warm, welcoming hug even when the subject, such as this, is melancholy.
Sneaky end!
ACE.

Loved it. A nod to "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" in there, right? smile Regardless, a beautiful song, superb lyrics, superb melody, and wonderfully sung - in fact, perhaps your best vocal to date - at least to my memory, such as it is. The message takes it over the top, and I don't think anyone who'll listen will forget that ending smile Well done, Marty - a joy to hear your music.

Excellent song again, both thematically and instrumentally. Loved the fiddle.

Thanks, Bob. This one is more autobiographical than most of mine. Happy you like it.

Thanks, Ron. I was hoping the melody change for each verse would kind of build the song from a hint of sadness to an everlasting gratitude. This, however, already isn't the last; I have 17 others songs ready to post. So goodbye --for now.

Glad it grabbed ya like that, Ray. Yeah, my bass is usually too busy; it's as if I'm happy to play and have so much to say.

Hey, I always liked singing that one about crossing the River Jordan, James --you know, the low low part. Thanks so much for your kind comments.

Thanks for the balance there, Floyd. Wonder if Paul & John did that, realistic John writing a song about goodbye, and positve Paul adding the hellos. Yeah, I like how the banjo makes the 2nd verse different from the first, and appreciate you mentioning it. BiaB and its developers deserve the credit by giving us the ability to change parts a measure at a time. Ctrl+F8 rules!!

“I just sang and played bass.”
AND wrote a thoughtful contemplative lyric.
A lyric that was well expressed with your vocal, bass chops and the band.
The fiddle worked well and the banjo was a nice subtle addition.

We loved this:
“Goodbye to trees and rocks that grow with them.
Goodbye to the seas and the clouds in the sky.
I love what you gave me in colors and rhythm.
I bow to all my last goodbye.”

Excellent song to end the album with!

Hey Marty,

Kind of a mix between Americana and pop - leaning more toward Americana - especially after that great banjo track showed up. This might be your best vocal - smooth, emotional, and convincing. You know how to tool a great song, my friend!

That "non-ending" ending was sneaky and great treat!

Never a disappointment when I click onto your music - nothing but smiles and pure enjoyment.

Alan
