Hey All,

Well, I just emerged from a psychotic family episode that was like William Faulkner x the Addams Family x The Shining x King Lear x The Walking Dead x One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest x Psycho x 1,000.

Maybe I will write a song or a dark, Southern Gothic redneck memoir about it all one day, or maybe I will just hang with my wife and my besties and the Forum Family and say to hell with it. As Jesus said: "Your family is all the people who aren't psychotic." Or something like that.

In the meantime, I wrote a new tune. Some of my well-worn templates got messed up. So, I had to start over from scratch. Because I was feeling super lazy I did not use too many tracks or plugins.

And it might sound better! Who would have thought!! Crank it. Maybe it sounds kinda Don Henley, I don't know. But that would be okay be me. I love me some Don Henley from back in the day now.

One Thing I Know

By David Snyder

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs4/one-thing-i-know

V1

I got a 67 beat up truck
My daddy gave to me
So I could drive across America
To find the one I need to see
He said I messed up when I let you go
Bought my freedom with misery
And these rusted chains around my heart
Just won’t let me be
You sent me that letter from Tulsa
The address is easy to read
And your phone number’s written on my arm
Right underneath my sleeve
I got one last chance to save my life
If I don’t drive too slow
And I can get to you by daylight
And just stay on this road

CH

One thing I know
This kind of hurt can kill
And I’ve thought about it a million times
It’s just the way I feel
All my other words were meaningless
But these five words are true
I'm driving to ask forgiveness
and
I will always love you

V2

See freedom’s a lot like peace of mind
That one thing’s for sure
Cause you don’t even know what it is
‘Til you don’t have it anymore
And I’d trade in all my yesterdays
For one night in your arms
Please give me one tomorrow
Just to tell you I was wrong

CH

One thing I know
This kind of hurt can kill
And I’ve thought about it a million times
It’s just the way I feel
All my other words were meaningless
But these five words are true
I'm driving to ask forgiveness
and
I will always love you

BRIDGE

And the sun is coming up
And I’m just about to turn
I’m thirty miles from being saved
So these tires are gonna burn

CH

And one thing I know
This kind of hurt can kill
And I’ve thought about it a million times
It’s just the way I feel
All my other words were meaningless
But these five words are true
I'm driving to ask forgiveness
and
I will always love you

David,

An awesome passionately sung song. Great lyrics and love the vocal.

I hear some Don Henley, some Ray Charles, some Dylan... So yeah, great!

Loved it all!

Well, David, as they say...you don't choose your family. But it can be complicated. That's all I have on that.

Don't know if this song sounds "better", but it does sound GREAT! Very clear mix and love the placement of your (very earnest) vocals. Super write. Road songs and lost loves never get old, at least to me. Nicely placed splash at the end, too. Love the splash...

We were VERY early riders on the Eagles bandwagon, and Bernie and Randy were my personal favorites. Never was the same to me after they split. But if you were channeling Don, I hear it, and there's nothing wrong with that. Don (and you) can wail!

Enjoyed your tune!

Hi David,

Have an extra ten minutes or thereabouts, so I clicked onto this one. Glad I did. I get more of a Dylan vibe on this one than anything else. One of the big differences between you and Dylan, though, is I can actually understand each word of your vocal! And that's a good difference.

Heartfelt vocal, simple-to-digest backing tracks that perfectly fit the song, and a terrific lyric - everything that's needed for a great song, and that's what you have here.

Best to you and loved one.

Alan

Hello David
It's not because there are a lot of tracks that it's better, sometimes it's even the opposite.
Simplicity and efficiency can rhyme with beauty and this is the case for your song.

Wonderful write with passionate delivery and just enough tracks.
As that famous poet (who's name escapes me for the moment) once said "Less is more".

Yes, I can hear Henley singing this, but prefer you, David. GREAT song! I really love it. I can't say it's because of your messed-up-templates solution, but this is my new all-time favorite David Snyder song. Outstanding lyrics with some very heartfelt vocal. This song makes one feel better. Dude, that's special.

As Jesus said: "Your family is all the people who aren't psychotic." Or something like that. HAHAHA

Enjoy whatever happens!

Really good country rock. Great lyrics with a dynamic chorus and bridge.

I can hear this being sung Ray Charles style - though a road song isn't very RnB it'd work.
As it stands/sits/plays it's really good.
Some polishing is possible but there's no need as the vocal commitment is the key ingredient.

Cheers

David,

Love, love, love the lyrics . . . you have a way with words . . . they have great detail, atmosphere and substance . . . Not the first time I’ve thought that about your lyrics. Also one of the better mixes I’ve heard from you . . . really balanced, just the right mix of instruments, with the vocal sitting right where it should. Just some excellent work!!
