Did He Ditty Do? on Soundcloud
Did He Ditty Do? on YouTube

Here's one from the Tunesmithing profession, which I'm sure many of you are familiar with one way or another. This one's about the little ditty that di'n't. So this AR guy, who hasn't signed an act in a long while, finds a guy who almost made it big once with a his one-hit blunder. The AR guy learns that this singer/songwriter has written another, and he's is quite excited to sign him. His boss, who also hasn't cultivated enough quality music in a minute (as he says cuz he's hip) jumps at the chance, which turns out to be his last chance.

Style is _FUNKBLS.STY (Funky Blues w/ Organ)

RealTracks in style: ~425:Organ, B3, Background Blues Sw 120
RealTracks in style: 1585:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm TexasBluesRockShuffleSol Sw 130
RealDrums in Song: BluesMondaySw8^07-StRide,SnRde
RealDrums in style:MotownFunkyTriplets^1-a: Snare, HiHat , b: QuarterHat, TripletSnare was used in the redesign in EZDDrummer.
I sang and played bass.

Did He Ditty Do?

I met Joe Twitty in the city. He said he wrote a little ditty.
I took it to by boss where music's often lost.
He looked at me and asked, "Well, did he?"
I said, "It's sure to be a hit. And it's gonna make us very rich."
He said, "Bring him back. We'll make a demo track. He'll sign the rights away."

Well, Joe was thrilled and quick to sign it. He bought a purse and hoped to line it.
He asked for five percent. He had to pay his rent.
I told him that my boss couldn't find it.
He said that that was still okay. He knew his hit was bound to pay.
He said, "Let's go on and make this demo song. I trust your music boss."

BR: I turned and looked and Joe, and said, "I have to know.
Your reputations strong, but I could be all wrong.
How does your giddy ditty go? "Listen again, my friend.
'Did he ditty do? Did he ditty don't? Did he? Did he? Did he ditty do?
Did he do for you? Did he do or won't? Did he? Did he ditty do?'"
Like that?

Release was wrong for just one reason: it wasn't did-he-ditty season.
The record took a loss. They pink-slipped my boss.
The moneybelt was tightly squeasin'.
It failed and really broke our hearts. It never even made the charts
Joe Twitty moved away. There's nothin' left to say because his ditty di'n't.

Marty, I think you "dittied" a really good job on this one.
Great vocal and lyrics.
Actually I'm sure many of us can relate to corporate music world, I know I can.
Super mix and a fantastic song.

Hi, Marty.

From the start, the tongue-in-cheek but really, really clever write comes through. Fun characters you bring to life!

Add to that some excellent vocals, backing tracks, and mix to make a truly standout song.

A silly song with a very true story.

Bravo! smile

Marty, super song, funny and arguably true. LOVE your vocals on tis one, and that bass is really solid. Inventive arrangement, and that spoken word part to kick off the middle eight is hilarious. Really nice arrangement and mix, though you MIGHT pan the guitar off center a touch more to give the vocal more space. Great job (again)!!!

Hug music again...excellent...the bass rolls and rolls and rolls.
The vocal - as alway luxurious.
The narrative - you do these amusing, homily twist based things OH so well.

Thanks, Mario. Yeah, many of us can fill in the real names of the characters in the story.

Marty,

You have a superior gift for great quirkiness! Love the swing feel. That lead guitar smokes, and the bass line is killer. This is a perfect match for your voice. This should have been around for Bo Diddly, back in the day: Bo Diddly, Dis he Ditty Do? Wouldn't you love to have the DJ who had to introduce that??!!

Another jewel for us. And it shines and sparkles, as jewels should.

Alan

Thanks, Dave. You can easily see why I didn't beg you to play this one when you look at the ditty chords. Although I know you somehow would've made the song so much better, you probably would've avoided me afterwards. laugh

Thanks, Ron. Just an irreverant mix of the same story likely played out so many times for over a 100 years. Thanks for mentioning the bass, too. My favorite line was from the AR guy was when he realized Joe's song was crap.

Hi, Ray. Hug music? Ha never heard that one. Sounds like a genre for holding her close without the insentive to move passed first base. Thanks, Ray.

How that ditty didn't is simply unbelievable.

Beautiful bass.

Cool video.

Clever.
And a bit twisted.

Thanks so much, Paul. I just curated those clips from royalty-free sites on the Internet. Otherwise, yeah, any credit and blame stops with me. Enough about me --I see you have a new one here I want to hear.

Haha. Thanks, Alan. A gift like that was probably the reason they wouldn't let me sit at the cool-kids table. Hey, I actually played a local gig with Bo. Afterwards I bought the '69 Ludwig drum set from the drummer ---Bo played the drums in a song and the drummer played Bo's box-like guitar and everyone --including Bo-- went wild when the drummer played Bo guitar as well as Bo --and much better than Bo played drums.

Thanks, Floyd. Joe thought the song was too good to wait for Ditty Season. Big mistake, huh? UPDATE: Seems the real twist was after Joe moved away. He opened a detective agency in Des Moines and called it DItty Doit Detectives.

Marty,

Good and clever song!
It's a very funny and slightly sad story about musicians and the music industry everywhere.
No one can write these types of songs better than you.
The vocals and accompaniment are perfect for this song.
And the video is great as always.
Enjoyed my listen and watch a lot.

Best regards.

Thanks, Greg. Man, if you aren't slain by your own music, then I'm surely no threat. smile

Thanks, Shigeki. No one wants to write songs like this, so it's a pretty safe niche. Can't wait to see GFTW here soon.

“because his ditty di’n’t” 😆

All he had to do was visit The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man!

We enjoy how you find the humor in real life sorrows, Marty. Both of us were reminded of stories we’d heard about the music industry from Tom Petty to local musician friends.

Everything is in the pocket and, as always, your vocal and bass are full and resonant.

Cool video too!

Enjoyed it,

J&B

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
