FWIW, the oldest .stx on my installation is 21 November 2011, suggesting to me that it may have been the 2012 release. Of course that's purely my supposition based on just the file date.

I'd just use whatever the version number was for that year's release .. as opposed to a date.

I wonder what that number was. Although I might use both to cover both bases.
I dug out an old 2012.5 version, one of the old that still works, and it has no provisions to make an .stx file. I plan to drop one in, to see if it accepts them, but other priorities got in the way.
We have 3 new clients with private parties coming up, and I need to learn and create backing tracks for a few new songs.
It wouldn't have a way to 'make/provision' an STX file. If you open 2012 and search the BB folder for .stx, do any show up? Or arrange the folder by Type of file so all the STX files show up together like below.
