Georgia On My Mind

Hi Folks,

Here's my version of the Hoagy Carmichael classic "Georgia On My Mind". Written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell and first recorded that same year by Hoagy Carmichael at the RCA Victor Studios at 155 East 24th Street in New York City. "Georgia on My Mind" has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame twice. The first induction was in 1993 for the 1960 recording on the ABC-Paramount label by Ray Charles. The second induction happened in 2014 for the 1930 recording on the Victor label by Hoagy Carmichael And His Orchestra.

Arrangement and Vocals: Nigel Spiers
Bass: Neil Swainson
Drums: Craig Scott
Piano: Miles Black
Guitar: Oliver Gannon
Sax: P.J. Perry

Great arrangement, Nigel. Makes me feel like I'm setting in a smoky piano bar. I love your vocal tone!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Nicely done, Nigel. Nice BiaB arrangement including the cool bass solo. Splendid vocals as always. They don't call it the Great American Songbook for nuthin'...

Just terrific, Nigel. I read the title and who posted it, and said, "Oh, man. This is gonna be good. This song is as if it was written for you voice. Sensational arrangement. Loved it when the band swings into the jam, and then you bring them back to take it home. So well done.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Nigel,
it's swinging on a beautiful, solid rhythm. I really like the sax riffs, ideally placed in the right places. The solo's not bad at all! Who's the sax? At 2'32” the double bass solo, I wasn't expecting it at all. The spirit of the piece is there. The voice is pleasant. Don't hesitate to sing even more languorously, it'll be perfect!

Nigel,

What a fresh take on the tune . . . at least as I know it. I'm most familiar with the Ray Charles version . . . but this is more upbeat and bouncy, which I think gives it a very different feel . . . to the point that it's almost a different song. Sweet vocals and overall production is great. Well done!!
