I just upgraded to Studio One ver7. I know Matt upgraded to at least 6.

The question is what did you find new and useful in 6 or 7?

Thanks,

Billy

Hi Billy,

I upgraded to version 7 based on the tempo detection. It is extremely easy to use and accurate. It is better than Melodyne. This is important to me as Bob and I now can jam and have an accurate tempo to work with using BiaB, i.e. I have BiaB tracks match the tempo in Studio One Pro. IMHO subtle tempo changes in a song make it more "organic" than using a click track.
YMMV

I also upgraded to 7. I like it a lot. Things seem to be snappier in response and especially in the initial scan/load. The transition was seamless.

I admit I haven’t done anything complex yet but I wouldn’t even know it changed other than the new stems feature. That’s a compliment, not a criticism since I expect to find and use the new features and haven’t read any feedback of serious problems.

Mario, thanks for the tip to check tempo detection. I use Song Master Pro for that now. This is one serious weakness remaining in BIAB (but not RealBand): non-integer tempo handling.

The stem separation has I think only four tracks (have to check later) but it produces a bass track that’s actually better quality audio than Song Master Pro does. From comments I’ve read, this is not just another Spleeter clone.

- Tempo detection, which is better than not having it but not quite as accurate as the painfully slow process of doing it manually.
- Stem separation which believe it or not it's the same Z plane stem separation as BB now, but much better integrated. This combined with the tempo detection makes it much easier to get the tempo map for any live song. BTW this local stem separation is not as sophisticated as online tools which can do 6-8 different separations, but Z plane will improve its learning as free updates.
- Launcher is designed for EDM but it has this place for playing around with a progression to hear different sections of your song in different orders or the party of the song that needs to jam along longer.
- The Splice integration is really good, making thousands of loops key and tempo aware so they work with your song with little effort.

By the way these all work pretty good with the V7 BB plugin, which can now follow tempo maps and uses the same process (slightly slower) as BB for generating the tracks to preview. You still have to convert the tracks to waves to get them into your DAW just like if you were to do it manually in BB.

Studio One (latest version), Win 11 23H2 , i9 -10940X 3.3 GHz, 32GB Mem, a 4K 40" monitor, PreSonus Studio Live III Console as interface/controller. secondarily test on Reaper, Cakewalk, and S1 on Surface Pro 3 Win 10 (latest versions).

Will be watching this thread. Still on SO V5.5 as subsequent updates didn't offer anything (I thought) I could use...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I need to go figure out the tempo thing. That is always useful.

I was also happy to find everything in the same place. One of the templates gave me some new ideas.

The $150 upgrade was not so bad as things go with prices today. About the same as lunch for four people at Margaritaville Key West...lol That does sadly remind me of friends that have left the stage as Trev says. Jimmy has been a fixture in Key West for years.

Thanks again,

Billy

I agree with the above.
Version 7 was a worthwhile investment.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

The tempo map is very easy. All you have to do is right click on the track "stem" and select extract tempo and then drag it to the tempo track and it is done. Super fast too. Another feature they have not mentioned is the Global transpose which works great as well.
