Is there a synth included these days with BIAB/RealBand? I thought I read somewhere a little while ago about a SynthMaster Player included with BIAB/RealBand but I cant see any mention of it in the 2025 information. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike. As far as I'm aware, Synthmaster Player 2 is still included with BIAB since there is a free version of the software that comes with 550 presets. Synthmaster is not a normal instrument playing synth like Roland Canvas or Coyote Forte. Synthmaster is really big with the kind arpeggiated sounds that are driven by a MIDI chords and used in a lot of today's music. In BIAB, if you want the usual, general MIDI soft synth, the program comes with Coyote WT and VSTSynthFont. The program also ships with Sforzando which is the soft synth used to drive the HiQ sounds for MIDI Supertracks. Sforzando is not a general MIDI soft synth. If you have any doubts about these synths, I suggest you use the Live Chat on the bottom lower right of the screen. You can then copy and paste that information in the chat box and get a direct response from PG Music staff. Regards, --Noel P.S. Synthmaster is mentioned on page 9 of the BIAB User Guide which can be found at the link below. https://www.pgmusic.com/manuals/ ★ my latest song: How Do I Love Thee? You can buy the full version with all the samples for a reasonable price. I did that and have used it as a VSTi in a few projects.
It is still in BB as the limited edition with some of the samples.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

The Documentation folder included with Band-in-a-Box has a file named "Read Me - Additional Documentation.rtf". That file has the following information about SynthMaster: About SynthMaster ___________________________________________________
SynthMaster Player v.2.9 is included. This award-winning synth by KV331 Audio has thousands of presets that are especially useful for modern, techno and arpeggiator sounds. SynthMaster support built into Band-in-a-Box includes: - MIDI SuperTracks and styles that use SynthMaster sounds. - Access to SynthMaster sounds using the Hi-Q patch dialog, so that choosing a sound can be done just by picking a patch. On the Tracks menu, choose 'Select Mi-Q MIDI Patch Plugin' and filter by 'SynthMaster'
SynthMaster is installed to these folders by default: C:\Program Files\KV331 Audio C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\KV331 Audio
Note: SynthMaster VST is a 64-bit plugin only. There is no 32-bit version available.

Sort of sidetracking the thread here...but LONG time biab user who has been away from biab since 2019. Now have 2025.
What is the best general use audio driver to use? I use Real Tracks as much as possible.
TIA

Welcome back! Possibly the easiest one to use is Coyote Wave Table, which comes bundled with BIAB. ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=29425&filename=2024-12-14_16-07-57.jpg) It's not necessarily the best one, but it works, and delivers quite reasonable audio.

I agree with Audiotrack. I also use Coyote WT mostly and SynthfontVST sometimes. Both of these are good and let me hear any styles based on General MIDI format quickly. If any tracks appeal to me, I take the MIDI into my DAW and use a more sophisticated set of sounds. MIDI Supertracks will automatically load sforzando and a special sound file so these will already sound much better than Coyote WT.

If any tracks appeal to me, I take the MIDI into my DAW and use a move sophisticated set of sounds. Aside from very few plugins VST3 in BIAB is stable. I always try to use VST instruments inside of BIAB to get a good feel how the whole composition will sound with those VSTi's along with PGM content. To be able to experiment and swap out tracks on the fly in BIAB instead of file dragging between BIAB<>DAW. When I am ready to move project over, I would simply save VST preset in it's own UI, open it in DAW and have it exactly how it was in BIAB. --------- SynthfontVST is very capable synth. In my view, the best General Midi VST is Sonic from Steinberg which uses a lot of Yamaha sounds. (that is one of very few that has issues with BIAB / VST3, but I believe it will be resolved soon).

TIA I think the guys misread that. Their answers are for MIDI synths. I think generally people use WAS. There are options also for MME or ASIO. ASIO causes problems for some, particularly when it's not a multi- type.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11 BIAB2025 Audiophile, a bunch of other software. Kawai MP6, Ui24R, Focusrite Saffire Pro40 and Scarletts .

I use Real Tracks as much as possible. TIA Unless you are recording audio in Band-in-a-Box, MME is the most stable audio setting in Band-in-a-Box; then WAS. However, when you are recording audio in Band-in-a-Box best practice is to use the audio interface's ASIO driver as a device specific audio driver normally has the least latency (time from when a note is played to the time a note is heard in playback). Many audio interfaces have a headphone jack that masks the latency issue by automatically synchronizing computer generated audio and audio you generate. Welcome back to Band-in-a-Box and welcome to the forum.

Mainly I use ASIO - which is a dedicated driver for my interface, but if DAW is running at the same time, sometimes there is audio conflict.. Then I would set DAW to ASIO and BIAB to MME.
