Has anyone loaded a sample song based on Song Title Style picker and compared it to the orginal song ? I'm more curious about songs that are done by a single artist than "standards" that may have many artists.

What are the chances the sample song's progression will match that of the recording ?

If you've done this for particular songs, which styles have come closest to matching the orginal in terms of the particular progression, key, and groove ?

How the he%$ did they find such a large library of songs and match them to a much smaller number of 'grooves' ?

If by that you mean the search box, top-right in the style picker, I believe all it does is offer styles that match the song title and styles with similar tempo, feel, time-signature. Unless I've missed something, you'll still need to enter the progression and select from the styles offered something that suits what you expect. The search is pretty broad-brush.

If tyhat isn't what you mean, please do say.

That's correct - the "Song Titles Browser" is only intended to match styles based on tempo, feel, genre, and time sig. It does not include chords, melody, or anything else due to copyright.

Hi Simon - I realize that chords and melody are copyright protected...and of course that's why the match is only by the general feel. Would you happen to know if copyright also protects bass accompaniment and drums ? If so, what are the criteria for avoiding a copyright lawsuit - I have to imagine many, many songs have bass and drums that are very, very similar.

This is probably an area that will only get muddier with AI - I can imagine a person letting AI generate a melody, or bass/drum accompaniment, that is identical to something already out there - and if not identical, very, very, very close.

Of course - legal costs are high and nothing was stolen if not proven in a court of law. If you're a top star grossing millions, I'm sure this risk is almost zero.

You can make very accurate song covers using midi files. GM instruments can be replaced in multiple ways according what midi engine player you have, use external keyboards sound engines like a Yamaha, Korg or Roland. You can use RealTracks, MidiSuperTracks, Playable RealTracks, VSTi's and live performance tracks.

A good midi performance can be nearly a note perfect replicate using a mixture of the tools listed above.

Laws differ in different countries and even states. We cannot offer legal advice on these forums - I would suggest consulting a copyright lawyer for that.
