Shakespeare's famous "Sonnet 18", set to music by yours truly, with BIAB's invaluable help.

See what you think? Thanks for all listens and comments smile

Sonnet 18

SHAKESPEARE'S LYRICS:

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Such a beautiful piece... Masterful work with your Synth V presentation. The mix is also excellent.

I really enjoyed this.

I really liked this, and so creative an idea to marry olde english with that vintage slow guitar setting. Perfect marriage. Well done!!

This was right up my alley, I'm a huge Shakespeare fan. The melody was wonderful, and I love what you did to the rhymed couplet at the end. Great job, James!

Ah, so well done, my friend. I KNEW TuneMonger would be here. He knows enough about the Bard to write a book. Encourage him. smile Man, this is so good, James. The Delsono-type changes, and what a great idea for a song of yours. I also got notice this morning of a YT vid for this, so I'll head there soon.

{I once wrote a sonnet sequence of 155. Since he wrote 154, my last one was 4 beats instead of pentameter. "Shakespeare wrote 154, so I shall write another more..." Yeah, then it went on to say my love was stronger than any mans. Ha, what did I know? I was in high school.}

Have a productive and enjoyable 2025, James, and keep 'em coming.

Enjoy whatever happens!

That is lovely music for the sonnet.
Although you didn’t mention it we liked the solo.
The arpeggio guitar is very nice and the synth vocal delivers lyric well.

Very creative and well done.

Happy New Year!

Hi James,

I've just discovered that although I left a message on Soundcloud, I forgot to add one here.
This is such a delightful listen.
As you would know, it's one of Shakespeare's most famous sonnets.
I love what you've done.
The 12/8 feel is a wonderful fit.
And I love what you've done with Synth V and Asterian.

Hark, gentle readers, and lend thine ears! For I have just returned from an auditory journey, a pilgrimage through the soundscape where a new ballad doth reside; a composition most curious, entitled Sonnet 18
Bills lyrics, though steeped in the vernacular of the age, possess a certain poetic quality that even I, a humble scribbler of sonnets, can appreciate. I give it a solid four out of five overflowing tankards of ale.

Well done James.

Noel: always a joy to hear from you. Thank you so much for listening and for such kind comments! I love this Sonnet (one of my favourites, along with 55 and others), so it was a little daunting, for me, to approach it musically. I'm so glad you feel it works smile
