Hello everybody... this is my first time posting here.

Music and arrangement- Steve Mohacey

I wrote this while deployed to Iraq almost 20 years ago with the 4ID band. It's never been played live or recorded. I imagined it with a much different groove and feel. I was fooling around with biab 2024 and came up with this version. Enjoy.

Memo: This is a fusion of funk, jazz, and modern pedal steel. Instruments include jazz funk bass, electric piano, electric guitar, and JazzFunkFiery RealDrums. -Examples: August Night, Genre "Intensity" Score=50/100
_DRM16S2.STY. Dreamy 16ths Jazz Funk
All RealTracks. Quintet. Tempo=75 (60-95)
Instruments: El.Bass, El.Piano, El.Guitar, PedalSteel, Drums
RD: JazzFunkFiery^2-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride :Ricky Lawson
RT1636: Bass, Electric, JazzFunkBreezy Ev16 075 , Alex Al
RT1639: Piano, Electric, Rhythm JazzFunkBreezy Ev16 075 , Jeff Lorber
RT1638: Guitar, Electric, Rhythm JazzFunkBreezyMuted Ev16 075 , Michael Thompson
RT2540: Pedal Steel, Background ModernCountryDreamy16ths Ev16 075 , Eddy Dunlap

Solo- 3960:Guitar, Electric, Soloist FusionFast16thsMikeStern EV16 110 (Soloist)

I'm playing a Yamaha WX11 with a Yamaha VL-70m sound module (Patchman Music upgrade). Recorded in Logic Pro X and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Gen 4.

Steve,

First of all, thank you for your service and welcome to the BIAB User Showcase forum.

You are obviously a very talented musician...and producer. Is that essentially an electric clarinet you're playing?

Thanks!

This is an EWI (electronic wind instrument). It fingers like a saxophone. It is like a breath controller for a keyboard. I control volume with the breath speed, pitch with the fingerings (7 octave range), and can add vibrato with my jaw on the reed (really a piece of plastic on the mouthpiece). It's a midi capable instrument.

Hi Welcome - This is a really cool instrumental. Nice use of Real Tracks, Cool Midi Sax Playing. Good mix and production, especially for your first attempt at recording. Nice Job! Hope to hear more.

Excellent first post! Really enjoyed my listen. You created a really nice carpet to last your soloing on. Looking forward to hearing more top-notch work like this!

A quick question for the group... can I post an arrangement of a song that is public domain to this group?

We’ve done that for years if it is world wide PD then you own all rights to it and thus it’s not technically a cover song. Our current post from today is PD.

Steve, thanx for your service!
You are a very talented musician.
I really liked the groove on this one.
Super chops on the wind controller.
Great backing tracks and mix.

PS - I have an Akai EWI USB. I rarely use it now as I use a breath controller and keyboard. I was a trumpet and French horn player but the Akai rollers drove me nuts. If I played the sax I might still be playing it!

Gotta love John Coltrane!

Mario... I got the WX 11 in the early 90's. Being a sax player, I liked the idea of having "keys" to press. No rollers, but actual buttons on the back to press. Even so, I often find my fat thumb hitting an unwanted octave key. The akai's have such a better sound library. And they seem more solidly built. But at this point, I just cannot bring myself to spend any money on another EWI. I just don't use it that often.

Thanks for the comments.

Hi, Steve.

Ooooh, a Yamaha WX11. Nice! smile

Sounds great, although I'd like to have your sounds a bit more upfront in the mix.

I've got the USB EWI. No moving parts, I tell people that it initially feels a bit like playing a broomstick. But then your brain "gets it" and suddenly it feels like a real instrument. But I haven't got anything close to your skill level. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Does the USB EWI have the same sounds as the EWI 4000 and 5000?

Oh, man, Steve. So glad to find your YT channel. I think I listened to all of the Pastorius and Metheny tracks. Great band, too. Your own compositions are very special, and this production is outstanding. Makes me want the whole album.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Ivy! Spent a few years with the Army, and you Army band cats can play ANYTHING. It's pretty cool duty, even with the obvious downsides...

Welcome to the forum!

Super tune, and love your breath controller work. Nice mix, too. Mike Stern sounds like he was ALMOST able to keep up with you. Ha!

I retired from the Army bands. It was a fantastic way to go through life. Thanks for checking out my song.

Mike Stern is a personal favorite of mine. As is Pat Metheny. You know... sax players always listening and copying guitar players.
