Thanks for reposting, Ray. Didn't know Van Duren or his story, even though I was just listening to a Big Star playlist this morning. Cool that the documentarians were able to do what they did. Probably more than a few "forgotten" artists like this that deserve to be remembered.

Yes, indeed. Searching for Sugarman really had one central idea: that Rodriguez was a South African phenomenon. The makers copped out on all of the important stuff and concentrated on confirming their own bias. They could've/should've found where the money went within SA and secured a payout for the man.
