Hi All,

Here's our latest. This is called BORDER OF GOODBYE.

I got a picture standing on my dresser
It’s been there for as long as you’ve been gone
It seems to me the only way to reach you
Is in my dreams or by the telephone
On the border of goodbye and gone too long

I see your shadow stretching down the highway
I hear an old coyote singing his last song
Winter nights are quiet but heavy with a silence
It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on dawn
On the border of goodbye and gone too long

Springtime in the mountains is coming down
I’ll see you in the Foxglove that covers the ground

I keep your posted notes hidden in the kitchen
They smell of coffee, honey, and old sweet songs
Every word feels like a bridge to somewhere
But I can’t find where the map has been redrawn
On the border of goodbye and gone too long
On the border of goodbye and gone too long

Another colourful lyric, Bob.
Loved it.
Both vocals are good but (I think I've mentioned it before) one in harmony would really boost it in the 2nd and 3rd verses.
Still a great song though.

This classic Bob Dean. I love the chord structure and the addition of Joliz' vocals adds that extra magic. Extremely enjoyable song. The mandolin firs it perfectly, too.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Yes. THAT voice of yours, Rob. Smoky, scarred-sounding ... stunning.

And then Joliz comes in, with her ethereal harmonies ... so, so beautiful.

Everything works with this song (love the mandolin solo, by the way). Your writing is so good, too ... wow. And you sing what you write outta the park, both of you. It's a privilege to hear your songs ... congratulations, both of you.

Oh, and I can't go without mentioning the lyrics. I won't quote any, because it'd be an injustice to the rest of them to single out any particular line. But ... wow. Pictoresque, lyrical, beautiful. Oh, alright then, just the one quote:

"Every word feels like a bridge to somewhere
But I can’t find where the map has been redrawn"

Bravi.

“I see your shadow stretching down the highway
I hear an old coyote singing his last song
Winter nights are quiet but heavy with a silence
It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on dawn
On the border of goodbye and gone too long”

Beautiful poetry in the lyric … terrific imagery!

Your mandolin’s delicate sound and notes are such a good accompaniment for the fragile feeling of “border between goodbye and gone too long.”

We enjoyed all the vocal performances ... the addition of your BGV to that of Joliz’s was special.
Your mandolin, guitar and the Biab session folks sound excellent in the mix.

Kudos you two,

J&B

PS love the mention of Foxglove!
PPS As a couple who played in bluegrass bands for years we much enjoyed the mando.

Bob and Joliz, another achingly beautiful tune. Love the acoustic backing, and Bob's guitar and mandolin parts really shine. Spectacular harmonies by Joliz, per usual, and I like the harmonies panned opposite of Joliz (Bob's?) a lot, too. Super song!

Sad, yet hopeful. Great imagery in the lyrics. I like the use of a mandolin in a sad song it's a juxtaposition.

Man, I LOVE this group. You write such consistently good songs. Your vocals are refreshingly unique, and Joliz is sucha gifted addtion. I really like the background stuff you two are adding. The mando was a perfect choice and fits so well. Let me also mention the line Foyd picked up: "I keep your posted notes hidden in the kitchen
They smell of coffee, honey, and old sweet songs"

Enjoy whatever happens!

Janice & Bud,

Thanks so much for the extremely kind review - it means a lot to both of us.

Those BGVs were all Joliz. She handled all the high & low parts. She has an unbelievable vocal range on both ends.

Bob and Joliz,

I love the feel of this song! You both did a great job! Bob it occurred to me as I was listening that you remind me a lot of Keith Sykes! Keith is a highly acclaimed and brilliant singer/songwriter whom I had the pleasure to meet and talk to at his songwriter's weekend in October! Your voice is very much like his! Lovely tune!

Thanks, TB
