Happy New Year, everyone. Hope you all had wonderful, peaceful, happy, and, of course, musical celebrations.

My first song of the New Year - hopefully, the first of more. See what you think? All listens and feedback very much appreciated, as always. I'm not too sure about this one, to be honest, so please feel free not to hold back smile

In My Heart

THE LYRICS:

Wanted to write a grand old classic;
To write a song that would just simply soar,
To write a song that would just simply tell you,
How I would always love you, ever more.

It is so sad that you've let this love fade,
A love that would once just simply fly;
And now, I can only turn and tell you:
I'm sorry, it's now time to say goodbye.

You've messed me round too many times,
You've played too often with my heart,
And, now the sun sets on our time together,
I see no other ending but to part.

I've loved you so, I would have given
My life, to save your own, I truly would have done,
I thought that you had truly loved me,
That you had truly been "the one".

I know that, if you were to turn around,
And, full of tears, beg me for a second chance,
I would perhaps be swayed, just for a minute,
And wonder if I should ask you again to dance ...

but you see,

You've messed me round too many times,
You've played too often with my heart,
And, now the sun sets on our time together,
I see no other ending but to part,

Though I must say you'll ever be in my heart.

THE BAND:

SOLOIST: Asterian (from Synthesizer V Pro)

Nice old-time tune..I think I detected some interesting chord changes that aren’t “traditional”—that caught my attention. Very skillful use of BIAB..I took some notes that could help me improve. Thanks for posting.

James,

Very nice song and mix. Great use of Synth V and BIAB. You have an excellent musical touch.

Great start to 2025!

Hi James.
I think your choice of instruments is good for this sort of ballad.
My suggestion would be to smooth out the staccato in the vocal phrasing
in the first part of the lines, as in "To write a song" and "It is so sad" etc.
Also the vocal sounds a little boomy. Maybe eq could fix that or use a higher range voice.

James,

A good lyric.
Nice progression. Piano sounds good.
The quick notes at the start of each line becomes distracting (and don't fit the tone of the lyric). The second half of the lines sound as they should..

Nice song, interesting melody and chord changes. Asterian sounds great, I have tried using him but found him to be too Broadway sounding but you got him to sounding in the pocket on this one. My only comment is I was looking for a big lift to a chorus, but that didn't happen? Good mix

Hey, what's not to be sure of, James? You are so good with melody and progressions. This is strong example of your talent, and it's only your first of 2025. Good lyrics that flow effortlessly from "Asterian." Very well crafted song and engaging production.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hello James,

I was expecting your vocals (talking, a little dramatic) when the song started.
And then this low voice of Asterian entered my ears.
A nice low voice, that suited well this song (at times the stresses or words seem mispronounced).

Your chord progression is, as always with you, very interesting, even daring.
Then it hits me, is this going to sound false?
But it always sounds pure in the end...

Nice song,
Hans

James great lounge music
I can hear the glasses clicking and the barkeep calling "last call"!
Sounds great to these old ears.
You have some of the most interesting chord progressions
Great work.

This is really good, James, really good! Loved the song itself. I wasn't as concerned with the staccato notes at the beginning of each lyric line as some here are, but you might be able to improve them. Synth voices was made for you! I guess I need to jump on that bandwagon, I'm another guy who can't sing. Way to go with this song.

The phrasing is fine with us. It sounds like the way you might phrase it with your voice.
And that means nothing negative ... just that it has a bit of the spoken word vibe.

So ... good job with the synth. Mellow and smooth.

Nice pleading love story also.

The mix sounds good on the monitors.

Well done,

J&B

The synth voice is delivering a soulful sound and is great. I like the feel of another era that this evokes. My constructive criticism would be to change/add instrumentation earlier in the song for some variety.

James, very cool, slow-burn of a classic song style. Sweet chord changes. Like the BiaB instrumentation a lot, and the mix is quite fine. A bit more dynamic movement in the band and/or vocal arrangement would add interest for the listener. Really fine song as-is.

Vic, thanks! I will definitely have a look at that phrasing, just a matter of getting some time to do that in. I'm not sure if I like it or not, but I need to hear it, again smile . As for the boominess, same goes ... just need some free time smile Thanks so much for listening and for your always very constructive and helpful comments!

Floyd, thanks for listening. You've not been the only one to mention the beginning of the phrases, so I'll hear it again, as soon as I get a chance to. For the rest, I'm glad it worked for you - thanks for taking the time to comment smile

Hi James.

The band that you have assembled for this song is awesome!
And Asterian's singing is great.
You've spent a lot of time crafting these lyrics.
Congratulations on a job well done!
