Living Inside My Head

Productive New Year 2025! This is my latest song inspired by events in nature that I have not noticed just because I've been thinking about something useless. And the final spark for the song and its title came from a musician sympathetic comment on singer's performance on TV: "Just like me, you are living inside your head".

Here is the AI summary of the song and I think it pretty much nails the idea: "The song reflects on the internal struggle of being trapped in overthinking, contrasting it with the simplicity and freedom of nature and uninhibited awareness. It conveys a longing to escape self-imposed mental confines, embrace the present moment, and reconnect with the world’s wonders and the healing power of empathy and love."

BIAB provided very inspiring band for my vision:

Based on the style _LODANCE.STY (Low Dance Funky Synth Pop)

Lyrics:
[Verse]
An eagle in a treetop
all senses full alert
not pondering like me
why my tries end up in dirt.
Life's full of signals
I try to comprehend
I wish I were that eagle
free from hectic trends.
I could glide in the wild winds
instead of neural waves
I could stop the self-blame
get out of cerebral caves.

[Chorus]
I'm talking to myself
thinking what I should have said
fretting the past and the future
I'm living inside my head.
I could feel for your standpoint
but I'm proving my view instead
the wall of thoughts surrounds me
I'm living inside my head.

[Bridge]
All the hatred, hopes and failures
cluttered in your brain
don't dwell on lost horizons
but flush that plaque down the drain.

[Verse]
A toddler in the nature
sees beetles in the sand
she doesn't know their names
but feels their steps on her hand.
Life's full of wonders
I try to analyze
I wish I were that young one
awed by birds and flies.
But I can't hear my heart
through the voices in my brain
I've quit to watch the mayhem
but I still feel virtual pain.

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
From the comfort of your thoughts
to the world where hurt is real
where every deed's a struggle
but love and empathy heal.

[Outro]
You could look at the galaxies
the vastness of a light year
connect with the lifekind
no need to be a seer
it's pointless to explain
why we are here
when mind and nature cohere.

Janne,

Love that intro! Clever melodies are woven throughout!
That chorus really pulls it all together! It's really very catchy and memorable!
Really nice work!

Janne, cool song! Like the arrangement and instrument selection a lot. The funky percussion and synths make a nice contrast to the acoustic lead passages, but it all works nicely. That's quite a vocal range on the synth! The harmonies on the outro are especially nice. Very original and inspired!

Hi, Janne.

Nice! smile

There are some spots where it's hard to make out the vocal as it descends into the middle register against the instruments. Those are spots in my mixes where I cheat and use Trackspacer to carve out the frequencies for the vocal.

The acoustic guitar bits work especially well.

You did such a nice job, you convinced me I'll have to buy NOA Hex. wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

That voice is very, very mellow does slip inside the music here n there.
I preferred the tonality of the voice in the bridge...not as smooth.
Excellent work.

Hi Janne,

I like the lyrics and singing them. I also like the drums/beats and the rhythm.
But I had some problems with the combination of it (music and singing).
It worked out a littlebit distracting from the singing of those very nice lyrics.
The vocals are verw well, especially in the chorusses.

Have a nice day, Janne!

Hi Janne,

Good to see a new song from you!

Well written as per usual, I especially liked the chorus. Vocals sound great, but the lead vocal was hard to make out at times.

Overall a well constructed song, enjoyed!

Great production, Janne, apart from the vocal getting lost in parts as others have mentioned.

Janne,

Great, great sound! Love the lyrics and what you have done here with the Synth V voices.

Excellent arrangement and mix as well.

Living within you meaning is better than living within your means. Wow, this is so cool, Janne. I LOVE the idea of the song, and you developed it so well. Dude, everything I read or hear from you makes me wish we were neighbors so we could sit and cure the worlds ills --at least our world. Outstanding images in your lyrics, and the vocals sound good, although as DavidC says, some phrases are tough to discern. The mix is so good, so if anything I'd raise the vocal. The song is so good. Productive 2025 to you, Janne.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Janne,I really liked the groove and especially the lyrics
But I had a hard time hearing the vocal in spots as they get buried in the mix
Everything else about this one is spot on

Very intriguing melody. I love the lyrics, though a few passages were congested within the melody. Overall, there is so much to like here. Breathy vocal worked well - many have mentioned that the levels were too low at times. Uber creative per usual for you.

Thanks David for your kind comment smile You were right about the vocals, I don't have Trackspacer, sounds interesting, though. But I made a new version where I added unmasking of vocals on the drums track also (I already had unmasking on two guitar tracks) and then I rerun the auto level mode of Nectar, hopefully helped to bring up the vocals.

I'm sorry to cause you extra expenses wink IMO, NOA Hex is really versatile, I'm eagerly waiting to hear what you can get out of him smile

Excellent work.

Thanks Ray, I appreciate your kind feedback smile There are two voices singing in unison in the bridge, originally I intended to use only alto femal voice there, but it sounded bit dull so I added the lead vocalist on top of it, even though that male is not that good for rap style.
