Chay, this sounds fantastic
The instrumentation is outstanding
The arrangement is perfect
The mix is great.
To nitpick I thought the ending was a little abrupt. This song is so good I was expecting a smoother ending. But that is only my opinion.

Thanks, Floyd! I was beginning to think no-one else was seeing this posted besides myself! laugh

Thanks for the great response, Mario. Although I like the ending in this - I don't feel it's too abrupt - one downside when using BiaB samples is that no matter how many times one regenerates a track the endings are always the same. There have a been a few of my posts where I wish I could have had a better ending, though the only one which springs to mind right now is the relatively recent "Baby Be Mine Tonight V1" which ends with 'climax' Dave Cleveland guitar solo, but the last couple of bars are weak when they should crescendo.

Chay, nicely arranged (orchestrated) as always. Like when the viola comes in and introduces a new section. The sound effects are nice, too. I share your (sometimes) frustration with BiaB endings, and sometimes resort to fade outs or holds/shots when I can't get a "natural" ending. Enjoyed this one!

Love the mood and atmosphere in this piece. Excellent instrumentation and outstanding mix.

I almost missed this one - so many new songs on the forum these days!

Hi Chay,

I agree with all others here. A very lovely melody, a well balanced song and lots of variation in it.
I became intrigued by that lady in the middle; not smiling, laughing, at 3:00 a wider smile and so on, until she was no longer alone.
Is there a purpose to doing this, or do I just think there is a meaning to doing this?

Your ending didn't sound so abrupt, just a bit. But what you replied there, let me think of a possible solution.
Have you tried to let the flute (for me it sounds like a flute, but...) play one or two more bars solo with the chord have 3 dots (like: C...)
Then you can cut it where it sounds not too abrupt.
Or maybe someone else on this forum has a brighter solution...

Hans

Thanks Ron! I've never considered doing a fade-out so I'll keep that in mind for future posts.

Yep, new posts abound, in part due to new members. I try to listen to everything new, but it's so time consuming I'll sometimes stop listening if I'm not grabbed in the 1st minute, plus it's inevitable to miss some, just as it is to accidentally re-listen to posts I think are new only to find I've already commented on them. Thanks, Bob!

Hans, the images sequence (after the title one) starts off with the young Quan Yin appearing in the night and straight-faced. Next with a night background she doesn't look too happy, but then the next image is a sunrise one and she begins to smile, thereafter she smiles throughout, though I tried to give her slightly different expressions with each image. When the final 3rd begins with the thunder and tin whistle she turns the rain into flower petals, then the birds come out to greet her, after which the images change with different poses and more of her in view. The sequence was just the way I felt it should go.
Great idea to have a couple more bars at the end with just a solo instrument!

I'm a fan of this genre of music - written a few myself. Your mix is excellent - spot on.

Another flavor in the mix that caught my attention is the smooth manner of transferring from one movement/section to another.

I enjoyed this very much. Thanks!

Alan

Oh, so well done, Chay. BTB (Before The Beatles) I had 2 albums of stuff like this that I'd pepper in between some jazz or classical. This is so mind-losingly wonderful, so calming, releasing the i-t-y from reality. Sensational to the point of losing sensation, stripping away the excess to reveal the essence.

Maybe a fade would leave the listener calmer than the abrupt ending. Just a thoughtless thought.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Chay.

What an amazing composition!
I thoroughly enjoyed the journey you took me on.
The arrangement that grows and develops through instrumentation is outstanding.
I love the guzheng opening. It sets the mood perfectly.
I'm also incredibly impressed with how this composition has a twist of 'East meets West' but never loses its overarching Eastern music flavour.
You are truly quite an amazing composer.

I didn't hear this when you posted it last year. Glad you reposted. What an eclectic blend of instrument that you arranged together seamlessly and naturally. As I was listening, I was curious as to how you would work that organ into the song, but lo and behold, it worked smashingly. Very enjoyable!

Hi, Chay.

Nice and mellow - nicely done!

Except for that not-faded-out ending. wink

Very eastern.
Soothing and relaxing, the choice of instruments is perfect for this genre.
