I used FLAC files for best quality source files. My goal is using stems for practice tracks for guitar and bass guitar. Both methods produced usable results. I did find however that the reverb (I am assuming it was the reverb and not just artifact from the BB program) on the original tracks seemed to make the BB stems a bit rubbery sounding with a slight muffled wobbliness to them, especially pronounced in the bass part. Moises seem to make more clear stems without these artifacts. It will be interesting to see if BB continues to update and improve their algorithms and sonic quality will increase. Just amazing at all that we can do this.
Anybody else trying comparisons?

I haven't tried Moises yet, but I'm wondering if it can split keyboards and guitar at all?

Just tried a song I made up in BIAB, the old jazz standard "Back Home In Indiana". Used the _CORDIAL.STY style, muted the bass and the drums so I only had the piano and the guitar available. Both active channels were panned to center. I then exported as a WAV file and ran it through BIAB stem splitter and the results had both piano and guitar on a single track with absolutely no separation. I gave it a failing grade. Not even close to what I wanted. I then uploaded the same file to https://voice.ai/tools/stem-splitter/ and the results were exactly what I was looking for. It accurately separated both the piano and the guitar. I then uploaded the exact same WAV file to Moises and it did not do any separation at all either. It came out the same as BIAB stem splitter. Was not acceptable at all. https://voice.ai/tools/stem-splitter gave me what I wanted. I was suspicious when BIAB gave only gave me the option of guitar/piano as a stem choice, not each one separately.

Fascinating post Joseph. Thanks for that description.
Too bad voice.ai only allows 2 free splits. It is free if you allow your computer to be hooked to a giant network where it gets to use your idle computing power.... uh..... no thanks...LOL. Otherwise it is a paid service.

Song Master Pro has the option to either do,a four part split (guitar and keyboard as a single stem) or a 6 part split which separates guitar and keyboard. I just did,a,split on a Kristofferson song and it was a perfect split of guitar and keyboard. Most splits I've done have worked very well. Although they say you get the best quality from the 4 part split. I'm certain it greatly depends on the source file. There’s another thread here where a few of us tried the splitter in Studio One Pro 7. That test was about isolating the bass track. I got better quality sound on bass with Studio One than Song Master Pro. I still use Song Master Pro regularly to analyze songs I’m transcribing, because it separates the instruments and gives much more information about tempo, key, song sections, and chords.

Ooo thanks for the heads up on SMP. Had not heard of it. It likes just what I am looking for in a desktop non-web based splitter that may be better than BIAB. Have you compared results compared to BIAB splitter?

If you have an example on youtube or an mp3 which you would like me to use SMP to split keys and guitar just point me to it?

Weeellllll, I just test drove Song Master Pro on the same song that I originally posted on. SMP struck me as having much clearer tracks. Especially on the bass, there was not the "rubbery" artifact that was present in the BIAB splits. The user interface was MUCH more modern and way more intuitive than BIAB and its other functions I felt were easier to use. The splitting was very fast and being non web-based, there is no limit on use or monthly fees. Very impressive me thinks! Thanks again Matt for mentioning this tool. It also has all the features of Transcribe! software (which I use constantly) with the exception in that (I think), it does not handle and display a video file (I use that to slow down, loop, and study music video tutorials).

Yes, I hardly fire up Transcribe anymore. So are you using SMP now for all your practice, slowing down, transposing, transcribing etc.. Is it a unified practice and analysis tool for you? Will it show a video file like I use for slowing down and looping and transposing a guitar video tutorial, or is Transcibe! still the only good solution for that? I have found a regular video player is not very good for that and Transrcibe! really shines there. And isn't it weird that the name Transcribe includes and exclamation point! LOL

I don't work with video, so I don't know.

I have found a regular video player is not very good for that and Transrcibe! really shines there. I've also used Transcribe! for years, but I'm now a big fan of SMP, it's like Transcribe! + Moises on steroids. It still doesn't support video, but the developer is very active and responsive to user requests, and I'm pretty sure video files will be supported very soon. In the meanwhile, Transcribe! still works great for video

I then uploaded the exact same WAV file to Moises and it did not do any separation at all either. It came out the same as BIAB stem splitter. Was not acceptable at all. Just did exactly the same being a Moises Premium user and the result was close to spot on with separation of piano and acoustic strumming guitar. Don't know how you used it and if there possibly can be a limitation on the free access ...

Transcribe! is the best at slowing down video. It certainly does shine at that. I probably use the program 3-4 times a week looking at how other musicians play certain riffs. I would say the 3 best low cost programs to use for audio and video would be Amazing Slowdowner, Transcribe! and Song Master Pro.
BIAB was never designed to complete with those programs but they certainly compliment each other.
