My experiment - now channel-swapped and remixed - with rhythm guitars creating a 'wall of sound' rhythm section, but I doubt I'll ever use 8 again!

The images in the video depict the sequence of the instruments as they appear in the instrumental.

Chay,

You always have the biggest most ambitious mixes around here. And they always work!

This sounds tremendous and is indeed a "wall of sound".

So well done!

Hi Chay,

Very nice Alt Rock. The balance on the peripheral edges widened the soundstage perfectly. That's a lot of tracks to mix, but you did a super job of doing so. Although the lead soloing was somewhat reserved, it was the right approach, in my opinion. It allowed everything else to shine in its own path.

Very nice, indeed!

Alan

Thanks for listening and commenting, Al. I agree that the "reserved" solos was "the right approach", but it's very much thanks to BiaB as I try out oodles of solos before choosing which to use and it was only these 2 styles which truly worked. Faster guitar solos didn't work nearly as well.

Chay, very fluid arrangement, with a nice selection of guitars and other instruments that all fit together perfectly. Very enjoyable mix with the soloists neatly nested with the band. Think you've got this process down. smile

Nice and relaxing sound, and considering all the guitars, you mixed it well.
Something to keep in mind: If you really want a “wall of sound" (see wall of sound), it's much easier AND more effective to layer multiple instances of a guitar track (e.g. by running it through different amp simulations, perhaps slightly delayed, or by playing the same melody yourself several times) than to use different guitars/melodies.

These are just 2 guitars from BIAB, but I doubled the lead guitar and added 3 layers (also played by myself) to the held power chords.
Simple yet effective and MUCH easier to mix.

Chay, you have taken the "you can never have to many guitars" to the extreme on this one cool
Plus you have mixed them to perfection.
Super drummer and B3 also.
You know that I am a guitarist so you know that I loved this one

I agree with B.D. about easier & more effective ways to get HUGE guitar tone.
I a studio it would, normally, be the case of the same player doing a second take with the slight timing differences and any deliberate changes in tonality adding up to a BIG sound.
With BIAB you can duplicate a track, at a minuscule amount of 100% wet delay, use a different amp setting hard pan L&R and boost the level of the delayed duplicate, (the brain fixes on the 1st heard so one needs to boost the later sound to claim equal status.), and you should be good.
Then again the multiple instruments playing variations can work, as you've demonstrated, though the differences are great and can cause some muddying.

Cheers

Good sounding track, fun hearing all those guitars get added to the mix. Perhaps not the traditional way of achieving the "wall of sound" , but certainly works well in this song.

Nice job!

Sheesh. I know I commented on this version before. It wouldn't be the first time I forgot to push Post. I just came back to see if you thought my last coment was humorous. smile Well, now i'll get more serious. LOVE it! Standard high-level composition and a masterful mix complemented by the perfect video, Chay. Pretty funny, huh?

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks fort those links, B.D. All very interesting, and I love the sounds you got on your YT link. I wasn't going for a 'wall of sound' like Spectre's, though I wish that in BiaB I could get multiple instruments playing the same notes. In "Reigning Guitars" I like all of the different rhythm guitars playing differently, so I wanted to try using as many as I could. I used 6 in the previous "Zuzu" so I just wanted to see what I could do with my favourite 8, bringing them in bit by bit.
