A song written and recorded by Jimmie Rodgers (in pic) and released by the Victor Talking Machine Company as the flipside of "Blue Yodel No. 4" in February 1929. The song originated in the 19th century in England. It later appeared in several song books, with variations on the lyrics throughout the years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_a_Train_(Jimmie_Rodgers_song) In my version I sign and play the guitars and tenor banjo. I produced this at my home with Band in a Box and Reaper. https://soundcloud.com/esa-blomberg/waiting-for-a-train-jimmie-rodgers-1929?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing&si=f4be85f2a01849cf9fbf2ab0615bd1b8****** Song Summary ************* Title: Waitin' For A Train Key=G , Tempo 120, Length (m:s)=3:16 Style is _GJBALFS.STY (Gypsy Jazz w/ Violin Soloist) RealTracks in style: ~1204:Bass, Acoustic, GypsyJazzBallad Sw 110 RealTracks in style: ~1210:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm GypsyJazzBalladJohn Sw 110 RealTracks in style: ~1209:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm GypsyJazzBalladGonzalo Sw 110 RealTracks in style: 1207:Fiddle, Soloist GypsyJazzBallad Sw 110 RealTracks in song: 1863:Mandolin, Soloist WesternSwingAndy Sw 165 (Bluesy) *******************

Nicely done! This caused me to look up Jimmie Rodgers--who I learned was the "voice of the Depression"--and more on the origins and popularity of this song. Your handling of English was pretty good as well!

Thanks, I've been listening to English language music since the Beatles started. I begun to make music along the British Blues Revival, which lead me to American root music and jazz. These are still my favourite ones, but I'm not talented enough to play jazz, so I just make jazzy music for my past time as a retired old man. I also worked for an international American consultancy company for a while.

Hi Brno. One of the first bands I was in played country and introduced me to this song. I didn't know about the English connection. I think you got this about right although your vocal phrasing sounds a little regimental to my ears. A few more runs through could fix that.

It almost sounds like a period recording. Very pleasant and great banjo. Laurent

Nicely done. It sounds like it could have been recorded in a room with the players in a circle around a single omni mic. Solo players and singer leans in a bit.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Great instrumentation in this train song. Love the interplay if the fiddle and banjo in the break.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Thank you all for your comments. Actually I record my own tracks one by one with just one high quality tube condenser microphone at my home in a small room neither sound insulated nor any acoustic treatment. But it's so quiet here in the suburb of Helsinki and sensitive mic, that no problems with background noise. Nice, if it sounds like a live band playing around one mic and solists stepping forward for their part, like it used to be. I also use a small delay for the backing instruments, so in the sound picture they feel to be in the back stage. The sound of the solist not delayed comes first to listener, so they feel in the sound picture to be in the front of the stage as they should. It's nice to hear, it works and gives the feeling of a live band playing at the stage. I admit again, that my weakness is the vocals: I know how I should sing and use a pilot melody track (usually vibes or piano), but still I can't produce the vocals I wanted and can't be in pitch. The ReatTune, which comes with Reaper, helps a bit, but makes vocals sound messy. I'm looking for featuring singers to record their vocal track listening to my background I send to them and then I mix it to my master. I have tried this a couple of times and it works. Here is an example: Lee Amari from California featuring in my song Country Songs' Seacret: https://soundcloud.com/esa-blomberg/country-songs-seacret-arri-feat-la-jl?si=7b9cc3dedbe148f39b413be177183579&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharingVolunteers?

Hi, Arri. Good cover - add a few record scratches and I'd think I was listening to the real thing.
