This is from a poem written by my wife, Kathy, she asked me if I could make it into a song:

Lamb of God

I did a guide vocal for her so she could hear the melody and where all the parts went, and we ended up liking the sound of the two voices in there so we kept my vocal. I had originally written the song in Gm, but that was too low for her so we settled on Bbm. Bbm was too high for me, so I pitch shifted my vocal up 3 semi-tones, mostly works I think eek

The Band:

2613:Bass, Electric, FunkPumpingOffbeat8ths Ev 100
3724:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopIndieSteady8thsBrent Ev 085
1831:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopModernGrooveBrightA-B Ev16 075

I used EZDrummer3 for the drums and percussion.

I'm playing the lead guitar and also added an additional rhythm guitar. My guitar tracks are both going through S-Gear.

Mixed in Reaper using plugins from Waves and Reaper, mastered with Ozone11.

Lamb of God (2025, Kathy Bell)

Jesus the Lamb of God
Willingly you gave it all
For me you bled and for me you died
Your love for me arms open wide

I am so humbled by your love
Your sacrifice comes from above
All my life I'm yours, you opened up the door
You bore my sins and bore my shame

I remember as I eat
Body broken, hands and feet
I remember as I take the wine
May my life with you align

I remember as I eat
Body broken, hands and feet
I remember as I take the wine
May my life with you align

Chorus:
Eat the bread drink from the cup
Crucified, now lifted up
Eat the bread drink from the cup
Crucified, now lifted up

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Jesus Christ my Savior x4
Jesus Christ my Savior

Dave & Kathy,

I love this so much! Kathy knocked it out of the park on this!
I immediately thought of the late great Gary Moore when your searing guitar kicked things off at the start! I know that the blues is where your musical home is, but you should explore doing more of this type off songs (this has a strong blues foundation), especially if Kathy has more of these tucked away somewhere!
This song picked up my spirits in a big way!
Totally enjoyed it!

Take care, TB

Beautiful song, starts out Garry Moore-ish and has some really rockin' guitar riffs in the chorus.
Cool arrangement, and you've added some really nice little guitar details that make the song very interesting.
I'm not sure about the double vocals, I think your wife's vocals alone (or with you singing harmonies) would sound better (and you know I LOVE your voice, Dave).
Anyway, I enjoyed my listen smile[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]

What a cool song. Very intriguing melodic structure and powerful lyrics. Like this pretty arrangement a lot. Can hear this in a heavier, almost metal-like format, too. Ya'll did a nice job!

Really enjoyed this, and I’m glad you explained the vocal engineering to make it all work—turned out great. I listened to this just after reading a morning meditation on Christ’s suffering on the cross—there are no coincidences! Thanks Dave.

Dave & Kathy,

It is great that you can make music together.
I liked the doubled vocal. It, along with the rhythm/beat, give this a chant-like quality.

Nice guitar work. Good change-ups...
Dig the pumping bass.
Good mix.

Dave & Kathy this is an outstanding song.
Kathy you should write more songs and sing more.
Dave I didn't notice any artifacts on your vocal and of course your guitar chops are second to none.
Outstanding lyrics, backing band, and mix.

I backed off my vocal a little. It sounds better with me in there, Kathy has only ever sung in Church before as part of the congregation, and never solo. And this is the first time she has ever sung into a microphone. So she was super nervous and her voice sounds quite shaky in spots. We me also in the mix it makes it sound a little smoother.

Thanks! wink

Listened to this several times, but this is only the second time on the good stereo. Kathy sounds so good, and I REALLY like how you didn't Sonny her (if you get that, let me know --haha). We all know she is good with words, writing sensational novels and memorable lyrics, but please encourage her to sing more songs too. Hey, write a duet --oh, man, ideas are coming to me as I think of this... Anyway, before I go, you know I gotta say GREAT guitar work, Dave. Kathy, you have a good voice. You guys should write more --oh, and the doctors have cleared me to play bass for you next time if you'll let me.

Enjoy whatever happens!

The opening guitar part has the same sound/tone as the guitar in Jesus Christ Superstar. I like that heavy sound, which you don't often hear associated with this type of lyric. I like it.

Dave and Kathy...you know I love this! everything about is so cool and reverent....the minor key gives it the serious and beautiful feel of the lyric...what a great tune to be used at communion time in a worship atmosphere...the vocals are spot on and Dave you always know how to arrange and play such great music and Kathy a lovely and worshipful lyric for sure...so well done!

Dave and kathy,

Wonderful song!

The doubling on the vocal gives it a signature sound - particularly for Gospel genre. As mentioned several times, the guitar work has a strong Gary Moore quality.

Kathy sounds great! She should sing more often.

Best to both of you.

Alan

Great arrangement and lyric and cool guitar, Dave and Kathy.
I think B.D. has an idea worth trying with the vocals.

Definitely a Gary Moore opening.
Some scorching guitar in this one.
The melody had plenty of surprises setting up expectations and taking a different turn etc.
Well done.

Cheers

We like it a lot and mused that our departed mothers would’ve especially loved it.
And the fact that you were singing together.

We like the doubled vocals.

We can hear Kathy’s confidence growing as the song builds.
First time in a mic? Wow.

Cool band and like others we can hear the Gary Moore influence - great chops and tone on your ax.

Enjoyed it!
