My PT17 has been working well since 2017 in Windows 10. I upgraded to Win 11 and when I try to create a finished song I get a "undefined external error" Error code 10 plus a lot of Asia looking characters. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thx Bill
tried to pm you but youve reached your pm limit. if you google that error code theres a ton of info on the net includeing vids. i suspect the upgrade to win 11 has changed some settings so ptw cant address your sound interface.
its difficult for us and pg to help without pics of your... ..win sound settings includeing advanced tab ..your ptw sound interface audio driver settings and... ..your sound interface settings....ie an applets settings.
knowing the above plus what your sound interface is means people helping you arent flying blind.
please provide the above info.
ps...please read my tips in pg tips forum. lots of tips that might help you in your use of ptw and your pc.

AZ only joined in February 2025 and has only made one single post. I doubt if a limit has been reached. More likely that the user can't accept PM's yet, or some other restriction.

Shootin' from the hip on this .. "undefined external error" states it is an external error. Meaning PT has in issue communicating with some other item (external)
As JM said, likely your interface doesn't have drivers that PT recognizes. At least that is my first guess. Or maybe they just aren't selected correctly in the Options-Preferences-Audio-Drivers area .. That's where I would start. Or try a newer version of PT; 2017 wasn't designed for W11 since W11 didn't exist at the time. 2025 should be out in the next few months, going by past years release schedule.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

That would in fact be the answer - PT2017 is not supported on Windows 11. As well, it would be a good idea to double check your audio drivers to make sure they're also officially supported on Windows 11.
I re-registered as AZ-Bill - NJ I posted the PT error 1 from version 17. I have been using PT since early 2000s. Loved it all these years 3 older versions. I just purchased Power Tracks 2025 today because of my error 1 when I click on certain things.. I now have the error 10 popping up. The original problem started when I updated to Windows 11, summer of 2025. I thought the latest version of PT would take care of this. This is getting very aggravating. Win 11 is fully updated. If I can't resolve this issue, I will return within my 30 days for a full refund - It bothers me because I love it and I am totally used to the app.
Check in Help > About to make sure you're actually using the 2025 version. The shortcut you're using to launch PT might be still loading the 32-bit version, which we no longer offer and would be a 2020 version at best.
The error in question means that PT is having trouble talking to your audio drivers - this could be due to running a 32-bit app with 64-bit Windows and drivers, or could be something else. What type of sound card/audio interface do you have? If you go to Options > Preferences > Audio, what driver type are you using?
Thanks for the responses from all of you. My PT 2025 is using 64 bit. I checked what was suggested. I'm attaching some screen shots of my info. My laptop is an i7 and in 2020 it was a fairly high end unit coming with Win 10 and now this summer upped to win 11. The app works but, every time I stop the play the error comes up. So I'm constantly clicking the screen error to remove it.
upthread i asked you to post pics of various settings. so far only limited pics which seem to suggest your useing on board realtek sound ? which i wouldnt recommend. no pics yet of your powertracks audio driver settings which various of us have requested. includeing Simon.
most project studios use these days proper low latency usb audio interfaces. which i would recommend if your useing laptop sound. many different price points. (see the looong thread in pg tips forum re various users comments on various usb audio interfaces....to save me retyping pages.)
happiness.

Does the error message change at all when changing between those two, even slightly?

ASIO itself isn't something you download, it's something that your sound card manufacturer would need to create when writing the drivers. It's possible to download "fake" ASIO drivers like FlexASIO which merely redirect to your existing Windows Audio or MME drivers, while "real" ASIO drivers bypass Windows Audio entirely.
The EXE file is what you want - download and run it, then relaunch PowerTracks and select ASIO driver type then choose the FlexASIO driver. See if that helps at all - if it doesn't help and the error message happens on all 3 driver types then we have something further to look into.
imho why faff around with on board pc sound chips if thats whats happening here. proper low latency usb asio audio interfaces are very affordeable these days... just my opinon.
heres the link for many audio nterfaces that pg users and other users around the world use. lots of options.
