This is a long shot. Is anyone aware of a device or a method to display in large format the chords synced to songs that are streamed?
We’ve been streaming music via Pandora to our smart TV for years and the music is sent to the room via a stereo system connected to a pair of Pioneer tower speakers.

One approach would be a device placed in line with the audio signal electronically. Another would be a device placed near the tower speakers to acoustically detect and display the chords much like a clip-on guitar tuner. The display would need to be large enough to be easily readable from across the room; think medium size computer display monitor.

Such a device would allow me to more effectively jam along with the music we listen to and be a great learning tool, especially for improvisation.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

No such device available that I know of at this time. However, the Closest thing may be an app called "4K You Tube to MP3" which will convert any Youtube video to mp3 and will download it with a single push button combined with Song Master Pro which will display the chords simultaneously with any mp3 as quick as you can play it. Works for me.

Yep, I thought this would be a longshot. I'm already doing what you suggest (in a slightly different way) and of course it's far from real-time.

But if there's any enterprising electrical/audio engineer out there that wants to make their first $10M, think about patenting and building this wink

One form factor that would work is a Stage Prompter

I use the free version of Filmora Wondershare to convert YouTube to m4a. I can even use it to capture the output of my DAW and Zoom on my Mac without setting up an Aggregate Device. The paid version has all sorts of AV tools that I don’t need as they already exist elsewhere in my toolbox. Cross-platform Mac/PC.

Song Master Pro looks interesting. I don’t need it but some of my friends certainly will. There’s a particular function I’m looking for that it doesn’t have, darn it.

Yes, what function?

Be aware, Song Master Pro is good but makes a lot of mistakes guessing chords with sophisticated upper extensions. It doesn't always get the song form right, either. It may be the best desktop program available so far, though.

I hope there is an answer. I don't have one.

But I also wonder how well in real-time it might determine the correct chords, think CMaj6 vs Am, or Fm vs Ab6 etc. The extensions are always likely to be the snagging point.

I haven't thought about this for all that long, but if I were to lead a design team to work on such a device I 'd have them start with a small electonic box that would intercept the digital audio signal and buffer it for as long as required for it's onboard processor to determine most if not all of the chords of the song. Then it would release the audio to the reciever and the chords to the display device such that they'd be in sync. The display could be a floor mounted stage prompter or a standard PC display that could be mounted on the wall.

Chord detection technology is already available. And as processors continue to evolve, the time to accomplish the chord detect would get smaller and smaller until the point where little if any buffering would be needed.

Ideally, this would be built directly into the smart TV itself or, the streaming platform (Pandora) would perform this operation upstream precluding the need for any electronic box or additional display.

I agree with the buffering requirement. I doubt any system could work in real time, especially when the algorithm might include chord progressions, i.e. monitoring the previous and next bars of music to improve the calculations.

One potential problem is the quality of the received audio. A piano melody or strummed guitar might be more readily able to have chords detected, compared to a heavy metal rock band with plenty of overlaid distortion effects and very loud percussion.

It would be an interesting journey, for sure.

Yes, what function?

Turning the lyrics to sung syllables.

Song Master does not extract lyrics (I read the documentation). Its lyric “ability” is the app scouring the internet for lyrics, synchronized or not, Since my needs involve original material, Song Master is of no use to me.

I highly doubt that singing lyrics going to be something they are going to just add. There’s a $600 app out there that does that I can try for $23mo. I may give it a try. Blanking on the name for now but I have the link on my Mac.

The app I was thinking of is Ace Studio AI . It can split stems and turn Audio, MIDI & MusicXML into sung lyrics. If your files don't have lyrics, you can type them in and it will sing them. It cannot split lyric only stems, however nor will it scour the internet looking for words. There are a ton more features, most of which I will never use.

See how experts use our AI singing voice generator to create songs with unique vocal styles and distinct sounds. It's perfectly fine to start generating AI vocals from either a MIDI or an audio file. With artificial intelligence, you can explore diverse styles for harmonies and backing tracks. Ideal for both personal and commercial use, this custom vocal generator offers a royalty-free license to elevate your songs.

It has a blue button that says Get Started for Free. Uhhhh... not really. You buy the app then have seven days to request a refund. Time is money on my desk so I paid for a permanent license in advance for the Pro version and got to work.

I fed it a MusicXML file of a choral piece written by my church's organist in Finale. It split the voices as expected. When I hit Play, the voices started singing. That was impressive. Changing the default voice to one of the 80 included on each track and making each into five for a choir effect took a few seconds. Being AI, much of the word pronunciation is terrible but my goal was for rehearsal tracks for my choir. I consider the results outstandingly not horrible. Mind you, had I spent any real time with it, they would have been much better. Anyway, I had five tracks (Mix and Part Dominant for Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Bass) being emailed to my choir in about an hour. I will not be asking for the money back during the next six days.

All rendering and exporting is done in the box, not online and that can take awhile—think video rendering and exporting times. I can't imagine using this without having something as powerful as my Mac Studio M2 Ultra.

You are not limited to the 80 included AI voices and can make your own using samples (!) but I haven't tried any of that yet.

I don't know if this would be of use to you, but in any case, it's otherwise very handy for quick chord detection.

Thanks for sharing. It looks like lots of folks are getting into this game which can only drive the technology forward.
