Looking to see if anyone has successfully been using a Scarlett Gen 2 18i8 in Windows 11 pro? Please only a Gen 2 18i8 with any of the last three drivers (current one is .20).
I have a dual boot win 10 and win 11 so I can test win 11 for everything I use (a lot more than just music work). It turns out that so far I cannot get the Gen 2 18i8 to send audio back, via USB, to the PC.
In Win 11 pro the 18i8 receives audio, again via USB, from the PC but will not send it back. It works fine in win 10. The audio does come out the 18i8's monitor jack's.
For reference I have a Fractal Axe FX III and a Fractal FM9 each of which has 8x8 audio via USB and without changing anything else on the win 11 audio settings (default audio out - speakers; default recording in's, etc) they each send and receive audio from and to the PC. So I know audio over USB works and all Windows 11 and DAW (BIAB, Reaper, Sonar, Mixcraft, FL Studio, and a few others) settings are set correctly and work, at least with those two pieces of audio gear.
The only thing NOT working in Win 11 is getting audio back from the Gen 2 18i8. The 18i8 works flawlessly in win 10.
If I can't confirm this I guess I'll be looking at a new audio device.
THANKS
Larry

The gen2 was discontinued February 2019 in favor of the gen3 that uses the CL chip set and different drivers. That's six years ago.
I suggest finding a Scarlett user group. They will know the workarounds, drivers and any hacks if needed. Good luck!

I'm fairly sure my 18i8 is Gen 2. It was purchased in 2016. I run it with Windows 11, without any problems, but I can't recall if I needed to update anything when I went from Win 10 to Win 11.
Although I haven't ever used it to send audio back to the computer.
Definitely reach out to the Scarlett group as suggested.

Yea I know it's "old." However, Focusrite does supposedly have good new Win 11 drivers - specifically for this Gen 2 device.
That new driver also works in Win 10 - so I know the driver "works." Again I can boot back and forth from one OS to the other and it works fine in Win 10 but only 50% in Win 11 - no audio return over USB. I've even tested on my two laptops.
So far, any user groups are on Fakebook, and I don't do Fakebook, period - YES I know that is my own foot shooting and bad luck, so be it.
I've already done all the obvious and not-so-obvious things (USB cables, different USB ports - USB 2, 3 Gen 1, 3 Gen 2, OEM inf removals and new installs, various registry "tweaks", powershell driver checks installs and removals, MoBo audio updates [Realtek], etc. etc. etc. (as teh King would say)
I was just checking to see if anyone here had an identical device with the same results in Win 11 Pro (24h2 - current build).
But I do appreciate you taking the time to look and respond
Thanks, (time to look at new audio "box" - I had to do this when I went from XP to WIn 7 I had to give up a perfectly good and awesome firewire 24 bit "box")
Larry
PS- AudioTrack - I'm curious that you wouldn't use the USB audio input/return from your audio device. Then again, I have no idea of how or what you use your studio and DAW for. For all I know, any external audio that you may need to get into your PC comes into your PC/DAW via the 18i8's analog outs or digital SPDIF outs.

I don't do FB either, and I don't think that's a bad thing... PS- AudioTrack - I'm curious that you wouldn't use the USB audio input/return from your audio device. In fact I don't think I've ever recorded through it. (You can tell that I don't do much recording )

That's OK- you wouldn't want to hear anything I record anyway.
Been playing since I was ten, now I'm in my mid-70's and still can't play but "I'm great in my own mind." 😁

Rharv,
Yea I know it's supposed to work in Win 11 and I've been in contact with Focusrite and we're working it - but so far no joy.
Gordan, ASIO4ALL works in both win 10 an 11. But ASIO4ALL is not what I prefer to use since I'm trying to bring into the PC DAW multiple signals over the 18i8 USB while monitoring them as they are recorded/ dubbed with the song already playing in the DAW. That's why you use a dedicated external audio I/O device (besides its better converters, lower latency, and more signal channels, etc).
I'm sure it's some Win 11 setting/config I'm missing somewhere but so far it just has me stumped.
And while sounding arrogant I've been building my own PC's since first ALTAIR kit and programming since I was in the USAF in the late 60's. I've been slashing, hacking and tweaking windows since Win 3. But this Win 11 audio thing is starting to really hack me off. 😡
In any case, thanks all for looking and replying

Thanks to everyone, but BOY do I feel like a complete and total DUMBA$$ !!
Without seeing my fairly complex Rube Goldberg setup, this won't tell you much. In simplest terms, I have a multi-speaker switch box between the PC's line-in and line-out and the 18i8 to select various speakers as well as listening to the 18i8 line/monitor out's directly to those speakers (sans PC for other reasons).
When I cloned the Win 10 drive and then upgraded it to Win 11 for SOME UNKNOWN reason the Realtek's line-in PLAYBACK volume got set to zero (that control is somewhat hidden and turning it up in the Windows "sound" settings does nothing), effectively cutting the input off form the 18i8, FX3, FM9, etc. After closing and upgrading, other settings and parameters stayed where they were set in Windows 10 so I have no idea what this happened.
That particular parameter seems to be exclusively controlled in the motherboard's audio control window (ASUS Republic of Gamers "Supreme FX" audio control window) NOT in the Windows 11 line-level settings. Yes, I know that means nothing to you unless you have a ASUS ROG MoBo.
In any case, thanks for bearing with me as I fumble through life (time for a scotch and a cigar)
Thanks again. Larry

FWIW I have an ASUS ROG mobo, Focusrite 18i20 and plan to do the W11 upgrade pretty soon, so thanks for posting the solution. Prevents me from going thru this frustration (I hope)

Good luck.
Before you do upgrade look at your ASUS ROG audio GUI, I'm sure it's different than my maximus Xi hero GUI, and know where the line-in playback setting is (may as well note where all settings are) so you can go right to them in win 11 and put them back
Turns out I've got similar problem on my 2-in-1 Inspiron laptop. The Reltek GUI there also disappeared, i.e., non-functioning in Win 11, and there is no way in win 11 audio settings to control line-in volume without that GUI. So when I use my FX3 OR FM9 8x8 USB audio as my ASIO the 8 in's, when trying to monitor RETURNED audio, the audio is again zeroed so I can't hear the returned audio. It's just a matter of finding a reltek HD audio manager that works in win 11, probably have to install in some previous compatibility mode to get GUI to work. I remember doing this same tap dance in win 10 when I first got the laptop - the Dell drivers only installed the HD audio drivers but no way to control the in's and outs
BTW That laptop has one generation too old CPU that doesn't meet MS requirements so I used Rufus to by-pass all the "unsupported hardware" requirements [TPM, CPU, secure boot, turned off bit locker, and set local account - bypassing need for MS account) works fine.
Wifes laptop doesn't even have TPM (CPU PPT) and is two CPU Generations too old and again Rufus let me bypass all that and put win 11 pro on that machine as well. Just did that to see if it worked and it does - can always go back to win 10 on all my laptops and desktop (which does have everything win 11 "needs") if I get fed up with win 11.
Rufus was faster than manually editing registry to bypass all that stuff - that's all Rufus does anyway
Larry
PS - I'm not telling, or suggesting, ANYONE who doesn't know what they are doing to bypass MS requirements to put win 11 on their machines. You do so at your own risk, nuff said.
