I will tell you right up front. AI vocal. My lyrics. I’ve been really digging into this lately but it doesn’t mean

that I’ve given up singing altogether. My aging voice does seem to be losing what little control

I ever had. I am enjoying this process so that’s all that really matters. Mind over Matter. If you

don’t mind then it doesn't matter. Lol. I hope you like it. Thanks in advance for any and all

comments.

50 Miles

I pulled on some jeans and my cleanest dirty shirt
While working real hard to hide my hurt
I left you down in Florida not knowing what i’d find
No matter where I go you’re right there on my mind

I’m a simple man to love but i’m easier to hate
i guess i learned the hard way every time I came home late
i’m sorry that I put you through my middle age mistakes
So i’m coming back to make it right no matter what it takes

I always take the long way everywhere i go
I‘m 10 miles over but it sure does feel slow
i‘ve got to get beside you before I lose my mind
I’m fifty miles from the Florida Georgia line

I can make a mess of everything I touch
only mama stood beside me now she don’t like me much
I can’t begin to tell you all the troubles i’ve been through
If i were you I’d tell me where to go and what to do

I always take the long way everywhere i go
I‘m 10 miles over but it sure does feel slow
i‘ve got to get beside you before I lose my mind
I’m fifty miles from the Florida Georgia line

I always take the long way everywhere i go
I‘m 10 miles over but it sure does feel slow
i‘ve got to get beside you before I lose my mind
I’m fifty miles from the Florida Georgia line

Hi Tom - a real toe-tapper there! Don't you just love a good country swing? Your lyrics and title made me think how all the lyrics flow to the title phrase at the end of each chorus - gee that's a real lesson for me in lyric writing. Well done. There's also a 'fancy' chord bridging the two last chorus's at 2'39" that I love, plus the immediate chord that follows at 2'41".

When you say Al vocal - at first I wasn't sure if you were saying it is artificial intelligence or whether it was Al as in short for Alfred or Alan, so I copied the text and pasted it into Word and turned on capitalisation and revealed it is the former. I've never used AI vocals - how is that done? Maybe there's a post on that topic already?

Andrew

Tom,

A great country song that puts my mind in the frame of Billy Currington. I enjoy a 4/4 even time signature that drifts close to a swing sound.

You have that AI singer down pat - sounds very live. And, as always, a great song based around a great story.

Lots to enjoy here!

Best to you.

Alan

Hi, Tommy.

Solid write, top-level backing. Toe tapper, solid country. Some clever lyrics in there.

It that a Suno vocal? Weird how it's learned how to apply an auto-tuning effect to a vocal. laugh

That's a scary-good vocal.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Tom,

This is a great song. The mix is also superb and has your excellent production touches throughout. I am completely blow away by the vocal though. It is an amazing performance by an AI singer.

Excellent music!

Super tune, Tommy! Your BiaB backing is really nice and has a pleasing stereo image. Those vocals ARE quite amazing, and the incorporation of the ubiquitous autotune effect heard on a lot of modern country is clever indeed.

How are you getting from lyrics to chords/melody? Is that you or another combination of you and something else? It's a VERY nicely arranged song, and the music is quite engaging.

I feel your pain on aging vocal chords. Time can be SO mean...

Hi Tom,

Ok, I understand your use of the AI vocal now. I was taken aback the first time 'cause I remember you as having a great voice with lots of character. But this AI dude has some chops, no question about that!

But the most important thing is the song, and man, you are such a great songwriter! Your music always speaks to me, and this is no exception.

Really well done, enjoyed very much. On my second listen as I type this.

Great write, performance, production and arrangement. Including that dang AI guy. Ain't he something when he's sober? smirk

So glad you're a musician but if not, maybe be a carpenter, because you sure can nail 'em!

This is a very enjoyable listen.

Tom,

This is as good as it gets! This track should be a big inspiration to anyone here trying to produce music with BIAB!
Your use of the AI voice is the best I've heard so far! I still imagine hearing you sing this though!
I understand very well about the struggle of controlling an aging voice!

Take care! TB

Tom, if you hadn't said it was an AI vocal I would have sworn it was a real person singing - brilliant job on that.
Great country toe tapper
Super backing tracks
Outstanding mix

Very, very well done, nothing not to like.

PS: And if I should ever use this Suno thing for vocals (e.g. in my next song), I'll blame it all on you.
It's all your fault!

Andrew, Thanks for your comments. The chord change at 2:31 was a happy accident. The song is in Am, the second chord is Dm/F. While making some changes to the arrangement the A chord followed by the D chord and E7 chord popped up so I went with it. The vocals are from Suno and extracted with a stem spitter. There are a lot of people here that know a lot more about this than me. I just got into this Ai thing. Hopefully a better explanation in how I use this is forthcoming in my reply to DC Ron.

Wow, another super track. Great song, great lyrics. Vocal was terrific. Are they really using a T-Pain effect in country vocals these days? I don't listen to contemporary music, so I don't know. Surprises me. You've really made headway with AI. Excellent work here!!

Tom,

This is a great modern country song.
The vocals are so natural and human that it's hard to believe they're synth vocals.
The accompanying pedal steel, electric guitar, and acoustic guitar you play are amazing.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Alan, it’s kind of a cross between swing and a shuffle. Thanks for your supportive comments.

Thanks David. I have yet to figure out how to remove some of the artifacts from the vocal but I’m getting closer. Yes the vocal is Suno.

Ron, this is the short version of my process. When I first looked at Suno a few weeks ago after seeing what Herb (Guitarhacker) and Dan (firesong) had posted, I first thought it was kind of a novelty or a toy as it was marketed as an Ai tool that anyone could use to make songs regardless of their knowledge of music. Well it is that but it is much more. I’m still discovering new features and how they can be used to create, sculpt, and change arrangements. It’s all about the prompts. You can use your own lyrics and direct it using instructions such as intro, verse, bridge, etc. You can also insert emotions (sad, whimsical) and much more. You can hum a melody or upload clips of your songs, guitar parts and other elements. Then after it generates complete songs you can go back and crop, or change lyrics or complete sections. It takes a bit of patience to get what you want. Yesterday I regenerated a section 35 times before I got what I wanted. So in a way it is collaborative. There is a lot that can be done with it. I only use the vocals. I take the arrangement and use real tracks, loops and live instruments to build the backing track. When separating the stems from Suno they are loaded with artifacts and yet somehow when they are combined most of it disappears. Strange. Separate stems are a mess and it can be frustrating to say the least to remove the noise to make the vocals somewhat acceptable. It’s another tool in the box that I found is worthwhile exploring. Because of the ability to change the arrangements it becomes another way to be creative. As you know it’s all about supporting the song! Hope this helps. Tom

Dave, thank you for all the nice comments. Yes it is all about the song. I was never a front man except in high school. I’ve always been a sideman and prefer that role serving the song and trying to make the band sound better. These days I’m much more into writing and producing as opposed to struggling with an aging voice.
