Hi Folks, hope you are all well.
This innocently started as a simple Willie Dixon "Spoonful" jam on my acoustic guitar but as often happens in my rave cave, (aka, my spare bedroom at 2 AM) things were soon spiraling out of control. You know how it goes. My muse (read: caffeine and questionable life choices) took over. But, uh... well, let's just say it mutated into something... else. Is it good? Debatable. Is it weird? Absolutely. Will it haunt your dreams? Possibly. But hey, please give it a listen anyway! Tell me what you think... Just promise not to judge my sanity too harshly."

I get it, Izzy. Yep, WIllie Dixon's SPoonful is lost in there somewhere, and you made it your own. That's crazy wild, and I like how you mix in different "movements" to add dynamics. Very cool, although not my usual, I totally appreciate the quality of production. An excellent life choice for sure.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Willie Dixon meets Peter Gunn! Very cool tune and a fun arrangement. That's quite a muse, and quite an amusing output you've got here. Super driving beat and superb vocals. A truly excellent effort.

Hey Izzy!
I was head-banging so much I've had to book in to see my chiropractor!

Rocking, raw and loud - just what the doctor ordered.
Love it!

Quiet Sunday morning..then this!! Excellently done! I esp liked your basic melody line…I counted 7 notes in most lines…that kind of economy pays off because it immediately catches the listeners attention..and that cool break b4 the fiddle solo…nice! Enjoyed it! Keep the insanity coming!

I love the guitars in this song, both the rhythm and lead - the fiddle was also a nice fit - but I thought that both the vocals and the solos should have been a little more to the front.

Hi Marty
"Thanks for the nice feedback, I appreciate you diving into the wild, messy world I’ve created! I was aiming for something that’s like a musical scavenger hunt – with a touch of Willie Dixon, a sprinkle of chaos, and just enough ‘I have no idea what just happened’ to keep it interesting. Glad you caught the dynamics – they’re my favourite part too! Appreciate the thoughtful words!"

Hi Ron

"Wow, Willie Dixon and Peter Gunn – I’m officially flattered! I always knew deep down I was destined to be the lovechild of blues and spy jazz. Glad the driving beat and vocals hit the mark although I don't consider myself a "singer" at all but thanks for the nod.– I’ve been working on my ‘secret agent meets blues legend’ vibe for a while now.
Thanks for the kind words Ron, and for appreciating the musical madness!"

G'Day Andrew

I’m sorry about your neck – but hey, if it’s rocking hard enough to need a chiropractor, I’d say that’s a *solid* review! Consider it a badge of honour. I’ll make sure to include some neck stretches in my next track. Stay safe, and I’ll try to tone down the head-banging intensity… or not. 😎"

p.s. The only time I do any head-banging now is when the Crows or Power play the Lions!

"Glad to hear it B.D! Sounds like It's hopefully your prescription for a good time. If rocking, raw, and loud is what the doctor ordered, then I’ll try to keep the dosage heavy. Let me know if you want a refill!🤣 "

Hi Tom

"Ah, nothing like a quiet Sunday morning *shattered* by a dose of musical madness! Glad you enjoyed the melody – I like to keep it short and sweet, just like my attention span. Seven notes is my secret weapon. And that break before the fiddle solo? I’m just giving the listener a chance to catch their breath before the chaos continues. Thanks for the kind words, and don’t worry – the insanity is coming in *waves*! Keep your Sunday mornings locked down. 😍♬♩♪♩"

Izzy it's a very cool thing but your vocal, on the high/loud notes gets distorted and very nails on the chalk board. No one else seems to hear it so it's probably just my hears.
I really enjoyed the wild, stormy, psych tilt and particularly the changes between bass RTs.
ACE.

Cheers

Hi Chay
"Thanks for the review! Glad you dug the guitars - I basically built a temple of shred to appease the riff gods. The fiddle was a happy accident, though. I accidentally dialed in the wrong midi patch and figured, 'What the heck, let's see what happens?'
Point taken about the vocals and solos needing more 'oomph'. I was going for a ‘wallflower at the party’ vibe, but maybe I overshot it. Perhaps I was aiming for 'enigmatic' and landed squarely on 'barely audible'. Vocals are not my strong point 😪
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

G'day Ray
Thanks for the feedback!
Glad you vibed with the wild, stormy psych tilt and the bass RTs—sometimes the stormy chaos needs a little ‘cough drop’ for the ears.
As for the 'nails on a chalkboard' effect, my long suffering partner calls it my avant-garde ‘sonic exfoliation’ technique. ☹️
Appreciate the ACE rating
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

Good foreboding rock feel.

The dynamics in the build up and the release of tension for a creative arrangement.

Your vocal and all the session guys sound excellent in the mix.
Man, that is a lot of tracks. Above our mix pay grade for sure. L)

Rock on!

Izzy,

Really cool! I didn't listen to a lot of Rock in the 70s and 80s as I played in a Country band 20 - 25 nights each month. So, I can't parser it out. But I did get a sense of late 70s to mid 80s rock.

Full sound with a ton of drive. That's quite a few tracks to mix, but it all sounds exactly right. Nice work!

Alan

Hi Janice & Bud
First off, a massive thanks for swooping in like musical superheros and saving my song from an untimely demise in the forum graveyard. I was starting to think it had the shelf life of a soggy biscuit, despite all the blood, sweat, and questionable plugin choices I poured into it! 💗

"Above our mix pay grade for sure"
Haha, I think you might need a raise then—because I’m definitely still in the unpaid intern phase of mixing.
This gives me another chance to shower you both with gratitude for your fantastic and insightful post from a while back, which answered my question about your mastering techniques. Your advice on compression, EQ, reference tracks, volume levels, and a whole treasure trove of other golden tips was not only generous but downright invaluable. I’ve put them to good use, and let’s just say my mixes are now significantly less likely to make ears bleed—so thank you both again. 💞 🎧 🎤 🎜 ♫ ♬
