A story song, trying to capture the feeling of the old west in terms of a hired gun here. Texas ranger, deputy marshal or other.
The last day in a life.

BIAB tracks:
Bass - 701
Guitars - 2444, 4012, 665, 3700
Drums - Mallets folk slow eighths
Drum stems - Americana slow rock
(Kick, Snare Bottom, Tom Floor)

V1
Coming from the south of town,
cold eyes like a snake,
scanning left, right and up and down.
The brain is wide awake.
He knows the actions,
from all those other times.
Ignoring all distractions,
waiting for a sign.
V2
Forwards at a steady pace,
hands hang loosely at his side.
This ain't no walking race.
Deadly business on his mind.
His fingers trace the pistols,
feels the comfort in cold steel.
Focused on the mission.
Just another deal.
Ch.
Somebody has to pay.
Somebody has to die.
You know it's always been that way,
from the earth up to the sky.
He knows it can't be him.
He just knows it can't be him.
Not this time
Inst.
V3
The lady walks across the street.
He tips his hat and smiles.
She turns back, waves her hand to greet.
The sun is in his eyes.
Thunder roars from where she stands.
A burning in his chest.
Too late now he understands,
this time, he weren't the best.
Ch.

Vic, that's a really cool spaghetti western ambience you've got going on here. Those guitars sound great and you've got the perfect prairie dust edge on your vocals. Those ghostly harmonies are cool, too. Nicely crafted ending to the narrative as well.

Oh, I thoroughly enjoy this, Vic. Heck, I enjoy all your songs. Another cool story so well sung. Excellent band, and that baritone guitar screams hired gun. Listening I see cactus and tumbleweeds, and hear the Texas Ranger galloping to save the town, especially the damsels of the saloon.

Enjoy whatever happens!

This is nice. Dark and just exactly what it needs.

I like the message: You might be good but never take it for granted. Stay focused.

I enjoyed that song.

Hey Vic,

This is one cool song! Great lyric and backing tracks. As I listened, I thought about how this would have been a terrific fit for Johnny Cash. But you did a great vocal on it - fits your voice quite well. You aced this one - my new favorite from you. Excellent in every respect. Thanks for a super listen.

Best to you,

Alan

Hi Marty.
Yes. Cactus and tumbleweeds fit nicely into the image and one damsel too many.
Thank you.

Vic, this easily could have been in the soundtrack of a Sergio Leone movie. I can see Lee Van Cleef or Clint Eastwood squinting into the sun on a dusty street. The perfect dark mood and a good story that is carried along by a fine vocal. Sounds really good.

Thank you Guitarhacker.
That was the idea without too much explanation in the lyrics.
I believe it’s called “show not tell”.

Wonderful Old West song from Sergio Arnold! Great instrumentation for the theme. the flute working really well in the mix.

Sometimes when I'm partially sane I look in the mirror, bend a little, squint my eyes (as in the song), put my right hand to the top of my head and whizzle my forefinger around in circles.
It's my impersonation of Clint Eastwood getting out of a helicopter! laugh
