https://soundcloud.com/user-770148857/that-flame-feat-tilted-haloBeth (BYOBand) contacted me and wanted to do a vocal on my latest song, That Flame. Of course, I said yes, and, of course, she knocked it out of the park! So here it is. Enjoy! This is more 1930s music I keep doing. I used the BALFRED RS, which consists of: 768 Bass, 771 Piano, 938 Guitar and RD JazzBrushesSticks1. I played the harmonica and BYOBand sang the vocals. Lyrics: Don't need money Don't need fame Just hold me honey Close up to your flame You're a hot thing But just the same I'd be nothing Lost without your flame When it's cold you're great for snuggling, keep me warm all night When it's hot, you're a gasoline guzzling, speed machine, alright! Other ladies Like 'em tame Fine and mellow Pales within your flame Solo At the farenheit of passion blazes our affair If you ever might be rationed, I could never share I'm on fire You're to blame Human pyre Started by your flame

Ha! What a great idea, and a fabulous result! Always love Beth's vocals, but this is a style I've not heard from her, and I want more. Your harmonica and Beth's vocals sound like a perfect musical match. Superb job!

Wow! You two have a truly great retro classic here! Your lyric and musical arrangement are superb. And Beth's vocal is vibrant and truly outstanding - perfect for this genre. Both of you have a great feel for this era of great music. I'm commenting as I listen for the second time. This is the best listen on the forum that I've heard in quite a while. Just so good!

I already liked your version, but Beth really nails it. Perfect! Very tasteful harmonica fills. If it had some vinyl scratches, I'd think it was authentic from the 30s. Really, really good ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/images/icons/default/thumbs_up.gif)

Hi, that was surely a surprise how Beth performed in this song! I immediately thought of Alan and Di, and I see they posted exactly the comments I expected. They love these kinds of songs. And I do love Beths' voice.

This is an excellent collaboration. Love Beth's vocal here. She really captures the essence of this song and era. Mix is great and love the selection of tracks.
Loved it!

From start to finish, this is first-class listening. Everything about it resonates with authenticity. I loved your songwriting. Your lyrics are a perfect fit for the early Tin Pan Alley genre. And I loved Beth's vocals, really loved them. Between the two of you, you have knocked this creation out of the proverbial ball park!

Class "A" collaboration. Fantastic vocals by Beth. Very cool and smooth piece of music in vintage style. Mixed & listens very well. Congrats to both of you on this successful journey. More please and thank you for sharing. Misha.
P.S. In my view, one of the most successful modern bands that perfectly captured style and sound of the past is Squirrel Nut Zippers. That Flame has same tasteful feel.

This certainly kicks things up a notch or three.
That vocal track fits perfectly.

Wow! This is a superb jazz song. I never imagined Beth singing this genre, but she's absolutely brilliant! I want more, more I tell you, MORE! Loved it. PS: I just noticed that DC Ron said he wanted more, too! Yeah, yeah, let's have some more.

Just poppin' in to thank everyone for your very kind comments. When I heard Bob's song, I instantly wanted a chance to sing it. So glad he let me! Little known fact: I grew up watching Lawrence Welk (a one-a and a two-a) and I had a secret dream to be a regular on that show. Another little known fact: That dream almost came true; I used to sing with a 14-piece big band eons ago. This brought all that fun back.

Well, you already know how much I love this one, Bob, cuz I've been buggin' ya about playing your harp on one of mine. So let me copy and paste what I said about Beth's outstanding rendition.
Oh, I listened to your new one with Beth. BRILLIANT. I didn't know it was That Flame. Oh, man. Beth sings what was in my head a bit when I first heard the original, but, YEOW, like you said, she hit it out of the park --and past the duck pond, over the town hall and finally landing in the tallest branches of the big old oak tree and the top of the mountain where mountain climbers fear to go. Seriously she never sang better. She was definitely in her element. You guys MUST do more --many many more.

Another little known fact: That dream almost came true; I used to sing with a 14-piece big band eons ago. This brought all that fun back. Your voice is perfect for this genre! I have a song planned called "Flying Forties" which is the same chord structure as my "Flying Free" instrumental, but features BiaB's 'Crooner Big Band w/ 9-Part Horns' with 'Rum Runner Old Jazz Vocal Solo' at the start and end, and 'Speakeasy Old Time Vocal Jazz' harmony vocals. Your vocals would suit the song perfectly, plus lyrically it's very light-hearted spirituality. My problem at home is that due to being separated by my even more aged neighbour's flat by thin plasterboard walls I can't record either guitar or vocals without disturbing her, so it could be months before I get the opportunity to record the prototype song. But just in case I ever get it done, would you be interestred?

Sorry to hear about your current creativity/productivity restrictions, Chay. I'm sure your neighbor appreciates your thoughtfulness. I can't really answer your question. It's dependent on so many things. All I can say is, when you have it, let me hear it. It's gotta fit in with my life at that moment and receive that all-mysterious 'yes' from my gut.
