I generated a solo in the soloist track. I want to manually change a few bars. I edited the MIDI track. Every note that I changed is no longer played but the new note is not played either. I regenerated the track, it still does not work. I checked the MIDI file of the soloist track and it had my edits in it. I can copy and paste in another track but then I lose the instrument and the Hi-Q patches are not cutting it.
How can one edit a soloist track generated by Band-in-a-Box? Thanks a lot!

I just saw in another thread that I should be using the Piano Roll for this rather than "Edit MIDI". I'll give that a try.

Were you generating a MIDI solo or a RealTracks solo? You can tell by looking at the colour of the track in the mixer - green is RealTrack and yellow is MIDI. RealTrack solos can't be edited by editing the MIDI, except if you're using a 2022 or newer version of BIAB. In those versions, RealTracks can be edited by using the Playable RealTracks functions:

It was a Real Track solo, I found the Playable RealTracks tools in the piano roll window, it works. Thanks a lot.

I can add notes as I want but I still have an issue. Any new note sounds very straight whereas the notes from the soloist have effects such as vibrato and a soft attack (tenor sax 2632). In other words, the new notes are flat but the real notes are soulful. This means any note that I add clashes with the rest of the track. Is there a way to copy the effects added to notes generated by BiaB or at least visualize those effects so that I may attempt to reproduce them on the new notes?

RealTracks use real performances from real musicians, which are phrases rather than individual notes. The Playable RealTracks feature uses single-note samples triggered by MIDI. There is no way to copy the "effects" as they are not effects but human performance.

That explains a lot. Thank you. Powerful and limiting at the same time. I need to learn more about MIDI effects and how one can “preset” or “define” a style, whether in BiaB or outside such that the waveform produced resembles an actual instrument played by a human. Any hints from Matlab programmers?

As Simon said " There is no way to copy the "effects" as they are not effects but human performance" however you can emulate many of them via MIDI Continuous Controllers (CCs) and pitch bend. It takes a little work and some MIDI knowledge but it can be done. For instance volume can be emulated by CC11, CC7, or CC2. Vibrato via pitch bend. Good MIDI sound sources have emulations that can be activated via key switches and/or sliders and knobs. Things like staccato, legato, tremolos, etc.
I hope this helps and good luck.
OK, a random thought; Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Happy to help! Mario's suggestions are great too, it's always possible to breathe a little life into MIDI.
