How's everybody doin'? I'm calling this one an "awakening lullaby"...make of that contradiction in terms what you will. I could use some feedback particularly on the break. Does it work? Would it be better to leave the drums and take out the strings? Other thoughts welcome. Beautiful. So calming.
I loved the strings in the break, so I personally wouldn't take them out.
Some of this reminds me of Enigma's "Return To Innocence". Great, great job, in any case.

Hi Beth! The pace of this, your vocal, the cello - all reinforces the notion of self-acceptance, and that whisper - the still small voice/ conscience/encouragement also complements the lyrical theme.
One idea if you wanted to create a variation in texture - in one section, maybe towards the end - replace the cello with your vocal (doubled) singing the same melody as the cello. They say the cello is the closest instrument to the human voice, and replacing it would further affirm ‘know yourself’. Just an idea.

Beautiful song - and your vocals and harmonies are perfect. I wouldn't take out strings or drums, but I wouldn't use that drum loop, it sounds too mechanical in an otherwise warm and organic song. I'd swap it with a RealDrum track

Beth, beautiful song, beautifully sung. Your harmonies are very sweet and perfectly placed in the mix. The hymn-like tone works very well in my view. I like the arrangement the way it is. I don't perceive any contradictions, just a gentle spirituality that works perfectly as a meditation. Nicely done!

Hi BD, Ya know, I wondered about that myself. I kinda like the contrast, but I'll probably play around with some real drums just to be sure.

So... I really like the advice and the message in the lyrics. Great job on that.
Musically, I think you can drop the drums totally. It's too slow to really need a "drum" track. However, that does not preclude the use of well placed bass drum hits or even tympani as this progresses. Maybe even a cymbal crescendo, again, properly placed for effect.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Intimate. Truly expressive vocals. That drum works very nicely. Good mix.

Very much a gnostic hymn, Beth. I love the cello in this - I love the cello full stop and have just used one in a new instrumental - plus I like how the song picks up after the start. I've copied the link so I can post it on FB as there are folk there who'll appreciate it. Brilliant write.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #58: Bring consciousness to it. #63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

This is lovely. My only suggestion would be to put the 1st backing vocal opposite the cello as they clash a little and the piece leans to the right a bit.. Once there're more parts it's not an issue of balance. Lovely.

Hi Beth,
What a beautifully calming and soothing listen. I love your writing, your arrangement and your band. Everything thing fits together really, really well. Most importantly, your singing is the icing on this very fine musical cake. You've done a superb job creating this track.

Different! I like your vocal, and very effective when you double it. Cello works well. Not a fan of the drum loop, maybe some percussion might work better? But overall I enjoyed this piece, well done.

In pain every day, but have surgery on D-Day that has me hopeful. Thanks for asking, Beth. How are you doing'? Good gosh, girl, I absoluely love these lyrics and especailly how you present them in melody. Well developed song. It's often harder to produce slow songs, but you did it so well. Love those harmonies. Perfect band too.

That is a lovely song and sentiment in performance and production. We like the band as is and cello is particularly nice.
The mix has excellent dynamics and sets up a good soundstage on our monitors.
Enjoyed it!
