NO-BODY
------------------------------------
No-body to hurry me,
No-body to worry me;
Sweet freedom to stay or roam;
No sweetheart, me alone.

No-body to make me blue,
No-body to be untrue;
Sweet freedom to come and go,
No honey, no "told you so".

You might ask, "Was there a dame?"
Oh my, yes; "Quite a flame."
It was a flight so grand
Till I asked for her hand.

You might ask, "So, where's the dame?"
Oh my friend; "It's quite a shame."
I planned to hear "I do!".
But instead: "Toodle-oo!".

No-body to come home to,
No-body to help me through;
Sweet freedom's delivered me:
And now I answer to no-body--
No-body but lonely me.

Hi Tom!
I loved your special effects on this one - the whistle, and also the way you say ‘Toodle-oo!’.

The tempo and style was great, with a little bit Stefan Grapelli style violin thrown in as well.
Well done!

Great fiddle opening. Great hot jazz feeling and your vocals fits in. You brightened my day with this one.

I actually listened to this earlier today and then had to scoot off, but my though at the time was, "He's a very talented guy."

How could such a sad song be so perfectly matched with that perky, upbeat tune? Pure genius!

We found during our bluegrass years that often an upbeat vibe can counterintuitively enhance sad lyrics.

We enjoyed everything about it especially your write, vocal and the gypsy jazz fiddle.

An excellent production!

Hi, Tom.

Sounds great!

The lyrics are a good match for the instrumentation.

Nice retro bits, like "Where's the dame" and Toodle-oo!

The slide whistle was a nice touch.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Tom.

This was toe-tapping great listening.
I love Gypsy Jazz and you've really delivered smile
You're a really fine melodist and lyricist.
Once again, I hear 1940s/1950s musicals in your creation.
You have a flair for crafting theatrical songs.
I found this very, very entertaining.

--Noel

P.S. I loved those effects that popped up throughout.

This is a lovely example of BIAB's and your creative versatility. The band is just perfectly enjoyable, the instruments sound authentically jazzy and the mix is very balanced. The lyrics are funnily lighthearted, positivity with loneliness lurking somewhere behind freedom, "Toodle-oo!" is the highpoint smile And your voice fits perfectly with the mood. A classic "should have been a hit".

David/Noel/Janne..thanks for the feedback...I'm sure I started by selecting an interesting-sounding style, then building it out..hearing the first melody notes as "No-body", then finally landing on a storyline that used that title but also had a kind of 20's-vaudeville touch.

Such an authentic sounding period piece. I imagine this in a movie with Fred Astaire. Nicely produced and delightful.

Very cool stuff. My mom would absolutely love this. It would have been right up her alley so to speak.

Couldn't wait to hear what headless song our man Tom would come up with, and the opening fiddle made me smile to be alive. What a fun tune, Tom. The piano with the fiddle was absolutely perfect. Love those lyrics and the whole direction of the song. SO well mixed and presented. Tom, you write timeless classics.

Enjoy whatever happens!
