Hi Everyone,
I'd appreciate some help please. I've searched lots on this forum and this seems to be a recurring problem so my apologies for the new thread. Just wondering if anyone has discovered a solution after encountering a similar problem described below.
Numerous times I've attempted to DragDrop and/or save drums as midi files, as in convert from WMA to midi in BIAB Pro 2024. I've been at this for days. The process goes well exporting as midi from BIAB, but when I import the drum file into my Cubase DAW, long story short the midi drum files are pretty much a mess. It takes a lot of editing to make sense of the midi drum file in my DAW....so weird. They sound great in BIAB before the midi conversion.
I've attempted - Dragging from the drum track to the little midi box upper left Dragging from a utility track to the little midi box upper left Dragging from the underlined Drums button on top to the little midi box upper left Exporting the whole song as a midi file
No audio to midi drum track seems to work near as well as from the actual BIAB song.
It seems ghost notes on the snare with a dynamically louder 2 and 4 take the biggest beating. Two & four snare hits with ghost notes end up at about the same velocity when converted to midi.
At this point I'm at a loss for a workaround other than tedious midi editing in my DAW.
Thanks for your time.

I’ve never tried this, and I have no idea if it will help, but one thing you did not try is to Export your drums as Music XML format.

Thanks for the suggestion Matt. I tried saving as xml but Cubase imported blank tracks where I hoped the midi data would be. The score editor shows only 1 bar rests.

Why not start with midi drums in BIAB? Can you export the WMA drum files to a single midi track and see if they play as you want in another program like RB and not your DAW. If they don't the problem is in BIAB. If they do the problem is in your DAW. The reason I suggest midi drums is that I imagine WMA drums must be one of the hardest audio to midi conversions. But I may be wrong!

....................................
No audio to midi drum track seems to work near as well as from the actual BIAB song. ...................................................... I have run into the identical problem regardless of what MIDI sound source I use. I will try a BiaB underlines drum track in my DAW via the drop and drag method but most all of the time I will either use the audio drum track , use a BiaB MIDI drum track, or use a third party MIDI drum loops like GrooveMonkee: https://groovemonkee.com/Most of the time I have found trying to get a converted BiaB drum track to sound like the audio, or at least close to the audio, a waste of time, and I work almost exclusively in MIDI. Maybe others have had success but I haven't.
I haven't lost all of my marbles but there is a small hole in the bag someplace!

Bob, RealBand doesn't play well with the converted audio to midi drums...much the same as when I import the BIAB converted midi drums to Cubase.
MarioD thanks for your reply. I've seen your posts in other threads. I guess I was hoping by now someone may have found a solution. I'm familiar with GrooveMonkee. They are great as are other 3rd party grooves.
I like how BIAB creates an "in the pocket" groove with drums and bass for the whole band. As a guitar player I was hoping to whittle down the tracks with my own real performances while editing the midi drums to taste.
Cubase has a couple of methods that may help. I will give them a go.
Thanks again guys.

From what I've read, it doesn't seem that you have tried the following (apologies if missed something)... 1) If the drum track is underlined on the top row, then it has MIDI notation attached. If there is no underline, there is no MIDI available. ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=30816&filename=underline means MIDI notation is attached.jpg) 2) To drag a track directly as MIDI, hold down the SHIFT key during the dragging process #2 in the image below). The options for Drag 'n' Drop can be found by right-clicking on the "+" in the middle of the drag/drop box (#1 in the image). ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=30817&filename=drag n drop options.jpg) I hope this helps, --Noel P.S. When you have the MIDI in Cubase, you made need to drag (or transpose) all the notes up or down an octave or two because Middle C is defined differently for different systems. It varies between C3, C4 and C5. While MIDI note number 60 is always middle C, Cubase uses Middle C = C3 while BIAB uses Middle C = C5 (if I recall correctly). https://forums.steinberg.net/t/cubases-middle-c-is-not-c4/131084 ★ my latest song: Fly Around In The Clouds (vocals by Synth V's vocaloids Kevin &Natalie)

At least by trying RB we know the problem is in BIAB not yuor DAW.

By the way, what are you using to play your MIDI drums? Do the percussion instruments have a standard mapping. https://www.midiremap.com/

I have been highly unsuccessful in converting anything audio to midi with good results. It converts but it's not even close in most cases.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Noel96 thanks for your help. I can't seem to get any kind of an accurate conversion from audio to midi regardless of what method I use....charts, export to midi file, DragDrop...all weird and doing stuff not consistent with what I hear in the original BIAB song. To be fair, since I started trying to make the BIAB audio drums to midi happen, I've been working with the three blues shuffles available on Pro 2025. As with a double shuffle there are constant ghost notes on the snare before and after the 2 and 4, which likely doesn't make the conversion process any simpler.
I use Groove Agent 5, Slate Drums and Addictive Drums. I'm not an expert on any of them though I've done projects using eDrums with mostly live performances tracking in midi to Cubase to VST drums and that worked out fairly good. The drummer monitored from the eDrum brain so no latency for him.
Interesting that you mention C3, C4, C5. Everything seems to land on C1 and higher but I still hear the full kit albeit very low velocity and grooves changing sub styles where they shouldn't.

Noel thanks for the Steinberg link. I do see C1 as the kick on the keyboard at the bottom of the Groove Agent GUI.
