I love Apple music - especially the LRC files that highlight the lyrics with wonderfully large fonts and scroll with the song.

That said - I don't want to keep paying the subscription to have this feature for the many mp3's I have. (updated 6/15) - AND I don't want to be dependent on iTunes or Apple Music. I've had more crashing, lost of my large library, and 'conversion' of my local mp3s to cloud-based Apple store copies than I can remember. My misunderstanding of how iTunes worked may have been a contributor, but the complexity and technical pressure to buy songs from Apple is too much - the programs are deliberately buggy, convoluted, and confusing to force more song sales. I want to completely detach myself from them (end update)

I'd like to upload my mp3s to the iphone and find a free or one-time purchase price music app that will do the same as far as playing and displaying synchronized lyrics.

Has anyone looked deeply into, or achieved, this goal ? If so, could you please share the software you used ?

TIA

There are a few. Try 'Folder Player' from the app store.

Try searching for 'mp3 folder player' or similar. (Unless Apple have got the game sewn up so tight that they won't allow anything else but their own systems crazy )

My 30,000 foot understanding is that the Apple eco-system is quite capable, polished, somewhat closed and pricey. But there is pressure to be 100% in.
From your tagline, you are already a Windows user, why not jump to Android? Pandora and Spotify have free/commercialed versions.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Android not a bad idea - but I have an iPhone right now.

I found a way to do it (but not the LRC part yet).

Googling helped me discover "Documents by Readdle" - works in conjunction with Apple Devices on PC and USB from iphone to PC.

I'm not needing lyrics, but I make music on a PC and play it on an iPhone by
1. Copying MP3s to Soundcloud
2. Using Cloudbeats app on iPhone to access Soundcloud content, organize into playlists, etc

Cloudbeats is CarPlay capable, which is for me a valuable bonus.

Watching this post. Good luck!

It's easy and free to load your mp3 library into AppleMusic. It is not intuitive—even for Mac users—but, once learned, piece of cake.

You can try Stage Traxx 3. It’s easy to use, and it has many additional features, like EQ, speed control etc. But you will need to add the lyrics manually to each song.

The inability do do simple things on apple iPhone without a huge workaround is the reason I have gone back to using a Samsung S24 Ultra. I can make a directory structure that suits me and I can copy any sort of file easily wherever I want. I do use Apple music and continue to do so on the Samsung but I can copy any of my own files where I want and play them with a number of apps. I can also play midi files using soundfonts. I can play both audio and midi with lyrics if I want.
