I was sat listening to some Merle Haggard in my Lorry (Truck) today and after listening to 'Sing Me Back Home' I was inspired to jot down some lyrics on the phone.............this is the result of said inspiration.

AI Vox for the time being, will record mine over the weekend and update the video.

But for now, this is Freedom Calls

Regards, Pete

Lyrics:-

[Verse]
The bars are cold, the light is dim,
I trace the lines where time grows thin.
A memory sharp, the deed I’ve done,
A shadow cast beneath the sun.

[Verse 2]
The judge’s gavel sealed my fate,
Now I sit and count the wait.
The world outside moves on its way,
While I await my final day.

[Chorus]
Freedom calls, but not for me,
A higher place or the devil’s sea.
I’ll take my last meal, then face it all,
When the silence breaks and freedom calls.

[Verse 3]
I asked for cornbread, sweet and warm,
A little whiskey to calm the storm.
Fried chicken crisp, like Sunday’s best,
One last taste before I rest.

[Verse 4]
I think of her, the love I lost,
A fiery rage, the final cost.
Her face still haunts, her voice still stings,
A cruel reminder of broken things.

[Chorus]
Freedom calls, but not for me,
A higher place or the devil’s sea.
I’ll take my last meal, then face it all,
When the silence breaks and freedom calls.

[Ending]
The preacher comes, his Bible worn,
He speaks of grace to the forlorn.
I bow my head, my sins laid bare,
But I don’t know if heaven’s there.

Pete, excellent work. I esp liked the concise melody notes and how you laid the lyric words on them so nicely. You say you used an AI voice for this--what is your source for this? The "croaking" of the voice on some notes sounds so realistic! Thanks also for the video of your track, I can learn something about this--I don't use BIAB for song-finishing, just starting ideas, so it's nice to see how another uses it so well. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed it!

Hey buddy, thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

I use Suno for the AI but it takes quite a few regenerations to get the result as above, which costs credits each time you regen. As for the inflections in the actual vocal I was very impressed as to how Suno got the feel from my basic prompts and I can't take any credit for that lol!

I finish all my songs in Mixcraft as I don't get on with Real Band, I find it very clumsy and non intuitive. I then overlay the mastered track on the BIAB video (deleting the original audio) and hopefully lining it up correctly so it all syncs. There is no doubt an easier way to do this, but I like working this way even though it's time consuming.

I hope this explains my working, however feel free to ask if you want more detail👍 happy to help if I can.

Thanks again

Pete

Pete, nice write and pretty BiaB arrangement. Vocals are quite nice, but looking forward to the updated video. You've really captured that country sound!

Thanks Ron, appreciated my friend.

I'll be hitting the studio over the weekend to record my vocals and will definitely update video...... After I've had a blast on the motorbike as we have good weather forecast, a rarity in the UK!!!

Hi, Pete.

Nice write - sad, sad country.

Suno's country vocals are scary good, but I'm looking forward to hearing you on the final version.

Excellent song and production all around. Love the John Jarvis piano. His samples are in lots of Styles and I've often used them.

Really nice take on this. Written from the POV of the condemned inmate.

I was in a band that had Sing Me Back Home in our nightly set list. Great times.

You're too kind, thank you. I must admit I was very impressed with the piano part, I didn't have to play with it very much it just seemed to work out of the box lol.
