SONG >>> A FREAKY ROCK SONG. (SHE BLEW HIS MIND.)
NOTE >>> Song deleted in order to try to improve the master.
(a complex big studio multilayered guitar oriented rock song.) (apologies if anyone hates it. please use good earbuds.) (caveat...for adults only....if there is enough interest/requests i'll put it in user showcase as powertraks was used early on and/or leave it up on soundcloud for a couple of weeks.)
1..HOW IT CAME ABOUT.
over the years in various music groups i sang in...(not just rock..) i was sometimes ridiculed for not joining in re drugs. to this day i have never done such. one of many reasons being i was put off many times not only by my family growing up but also at a very very early age by seeing what happened to someone i knew....and i'll leave it to that. however because of the above over time a kernel of a song idea gradually grew. this era i call my 'jekyll and hyde good boy/bad boy' phase...lol. i was a bit of a rebel....lol.
those were crazy times singing in all sorts of music groups from massed choirs to rock groups.... tons of fun....lol. without being 'preachy' i believe the big boss gave us all music to have fun with.
2..GEAR USED.
..initially the song was mapped out in powertraks which i think is a great music app. (later i bought bb/rb.) (for lurkers thinking of getting ptw..i did a ton of songs in that era with ptw.) ..THEN.....it was recorded over time with some pretty impressive big studio artillery. eg..2 inch tape based mtr's..and lovely studio audio consoles etc...this wasnt a one day and done song. ..the third phase was complex mixing in a world class studio (with a big arsenal of gear) with an impressive well known client list from all over the world. (one heck of a studio complex. frankly it boggled my mind. they treated me extremely well given the small amount of my nothing budget.)
3..THE SONG ITSELF.
..its a very complex song with lots of guitar layers etc.. ie lots of work. thus of course automation was used in the mixdown process due to the complexity. ..in essence the story is about a freaky lady that lures an innocent lad into..... well i'll leave the listener to have a listen to the story... ((you can probably guess the story from the clues ive given.) ..i wanted the song to communicate in a subtle way that drugs can really mess with ones life...and the consequences.... eg the aforementioned friend of mine.
4..IF YOU PLAY IT.
..be as honest as you wish...i can take it. dont hold back with critique. particularly would like to know what people think of the wild guitar outtro starting around 3mins30secs...lmao. as well as my bonkers Mr Hyde rock vocals overall and the final 'yell'. like lots of songwriters i do the best i can and thats it. ..it might not cater to all tastes. ..it reflects a crazy busy singing period of my life. but hey...crazy stuff is how i met my big hearted wife after living all over the world. i got the best of the deal...she got a daft music goof...lol.
happiness always to all.

4..IF YOU PLAY IT.
..be as honest as you wish...i can take it. dont hold back with critique. Well, seeing you can take it, I listened to a few sections of it, and wished I hadn't . Maybe it's a great song, but it's definitely not for me, sorry.

I listened to it. Sounds like hair metal from the 1980s — not my cuppa. I have no idea if there’s any market for this other than parody—pretty sure that all the songs for the next Spinal Tap movie are in the can. My bonkers Mr. Hyde vocal… I may now understand your quest for the ultimate cheap microphone. Vocals sound way over processed to the point that I have no idea what you sound like.

om, loved the backing bank, a very 1980's hair band vibe Hated the vocal (sorry if I am being rude). So over processed it was hard to understand the lyrics and IMHO it was very child like for this genre. Keep the backing tracks, redo the lyrics, and sing or hire a rock vocalist to sing like an 80's front man, say like Whitesnake, Poison, Motley Crue, etc.

to everyone.
thanks for the comments and honesty. yeh i know its not for all tastes.
as to the over processed vocs and mix.. i left it up to the major studio mix blokes as i was in awe of the place.
i HAVE had a range of comments about the song from likes to dont likes....ah the life of a songwriter. but it was fun.
once again thanks for the honest comments. and great apologies to those that didnt like it.
i'll leave it up on scloud for a couple of days for any other comments.
happiness to all.

I actually like it. Very creative and the vocal isn't an issue.. if Geddy Lee, Axl Rose, and whoever is the singer for AC DC can sing......
I'm curious what part of this is BB tracks.
The mix is good. Nice and punchy

... and great apologies to those that didnt like it. ... I have a number of tracks that some days I love and some days I hate. The world would be a dull place without such contrasts. IMHO, no apology is warranted.

Gordon is absolutely on track. No apology is required. You asked, you wanted honest feedback, good or bad, and people responded. Job done. There's absolutely nothing to apologize about.

thanks for the listen and comments GH.
fyi GH/All.... no bb content was used.
typically what happened when i was a powertraks user (before then buying bb/rb) i developed tons of songs in ptw and then went into a studio to take a song further and mixdown etc etc. (eg 'a man and woman' song on my scloud. a different genre.)
ok...i'm useless at mastering, i always leave that to the pro's but ive deleted the song to see if i can improve the clarity of the vocal words. its not the first time someone has mentioned voc clarity to me.
if anyone has any ideas on improving the clarity of the words feel free to comment cos when it comes to my own efforts at mastering i get bogged down often in analysis and too many darn options.
i should say even if the song has problems being in that wonderfull studio was a great experience and yes lots of fun.
happiness.

om So generally, EQ on the vocal would be used to clarify it. Don't cover it with FX because that tends to have the opposite effect, making it harder to understand. EQ to remove lower freq where the mud usually lives and also to make room in the mix for the vocal to work without running interference with other instruments, and a bit of higher end to give it "air". You can also put a little bit of volume/compression/boost on the vox to get them a little bit more to the front of the mix. Just don't overdo it. But like I said earlier, I thought the mix and the vocals were pretty decent to start with.

Well song is deleted but I do hope you post it again, as I want to hear it.
I do like to hear the vocal though and make out most of the lyrics. For the few songs I do, I do like the lyrics to stand out in front, as I think as a amateur songwriter I don't have the privilege of either a long intro or someone not being able to hear the words of a song.
For a pro established singer I feel the above can be totally different as people will listen anyways.

Go one OM put it up again, you are depriving me of a listen. Seriously why not just put it up again, I have a number of songs on youtube, some probably bad, but at least its a handy reference to go to where they at least in the one place. You like your song, you probably put a lot of work into it, so for that reason alone it deserves to be heard, whether others like it or not.

Musiclover.
re 'freaky rock song'. let me see what i can do re making the lyrics stand out better. i tried once and wasnt happy with results. i'm pretty busy on other songs also. in the interim and i hope you find this interesting...
in my sig is a rock song called 'the stallion'. (lots of plays...a rock song.). it came about because over the years of being a pg user... various people have said to me 'oh that pg stuff is for doing elevator music...cant do rock..'....which is daft imho. ive done lots of rock songs useing pg content. in summary its a rock song to show one can do a rock song useing pg apps/rt's/rd's etc. it was lots of work. use good earbuds if you wanna play it.
ps a little hidden easter egg in the song..... can you guess the meaning of the lyric 'pink tie'? a clue.. its out of my respect for women and what some go through in life.
then for complete contrast lmao listen to the bluegrass song 'banker man'. about poor farmers..ive had no complaints either on this one.
happiness.
