Nevermind

Yep, nevermind. I should have expected that they would come from far and wide to protect their very precious Macs, and totally derail the thread without actually following the post content.

I never once said Macs were no good. I never once suggested that the Mac was not a sensational computer. I never said Microsoft didn't release versions that didn't have issues. I never suggested I would like any future versions from Microsoft. I never suggested that you should not use Windows even if you were given one. My post was totally about this:

Apple keep manipulating their market opportunity by continually releasing O/S and hardware upgrades that make previous hardware / O/S so quickly redundant.

It would be better to stick to the thread content than derail it, going off on a separate tangent and labeling it nonsense. Read the post again if you wish.

Or better still, nevermind.

Maybe the reason BB doesn't run natively on Macs is PG are privy to information that the rest of us aren't.

IMHO whether MAC or PC, there are pluses and minuses of each platform.

I'm about to move my music production from an Intel Mac to a new Mac.

Assuming I will be running my DAW (Reaper) as a native application, will the Band-in-a-Box plug-in still work with it?
Or am I back in the world of MIDI export/import, using the BiaB app under Rosetta?

You could have read this thread and then you would know.

PG Music has been telling us why for the last few years.

I repeated it a few posts up. PGM confirmed it by quoting me. It’s no secret. There’s nothing “privy” about it.

One more time, just for you: When BIAB goes native in 2027, users with older Macs than (date unknown because that depends on what Apple will be supporting with macOS 2028) will be unable to upgrade. This is based on recent announcements from Apple that can change–again, something we won’t know for another year and a half.

It really is that simple.

Those of us with AS Macs already will be very glad when that happens. See my next post.

For the next couple years, BIAB for the Mac will continue to require Rosetta 2 on AS Macs. Apple has said, that Rosetta will not be a part of macOS 2028 so BIAB will have to become a Native app in mid 2027. We went through this last time when BIAB had to become 64 bit in 2018 so that it could run over Catalina.

As for your question, it depends. Not be a Reaper user, I can’t speak to that.

I can tell you that Finale doesn’t play well with BIAB unless I run Finale 27 over Rosetta 2–then it does. While BIAB runs great over Rosetta, Finale lags a bit so I don’t.

Although I understand the reasons why, 2027 can’t come fast enough for me.

The BIAB plug-in runs fine in Digital Performer, however. There are many threads about it how it works in Reaper in the Plug-in section.

Having now completed the process of moving systems, I'm happy to say that the established workflow still functions. I don't know whether the ARM/Intel bridge is being handled by Rosetta automatically, or by Reaper's plugin architecture. (Reaper has an option to run a plugin as a separate process, and I think that may be what I'm seeing.)

Sorry... I am confused...
My new MacBook Pro M4 is running Tahoe. Will BB install and work ok or do I need to install a different version of Mac OS?

The BIAB 2025 for Mac has been fully vetted over Tahoe per PG Music which means that it's supported.

I've run it over my Tahoe test volume and it runs great (can't say that about Finale but there are apps in the works that aim to solve that problem—if so, I might upgrade my OS from Sequoia).
