Hey there,

I just purchased my Ultrapak upgrade for the 2025 version of Band In A Box and BIAB doesn't seem to be recognising my Realtracks. I do a rebuild and have the program pointed towards my USB that has the Realtracks folder, but it only pops up with 4% of the Realtracks found.

Previously I started with the 2023 UltraPak+, then upgraded to 2024, and ran the upgrades for the Realtracks pointed to the external drive. That went fine with no problems. When I purchased 2025 this morning I thought i'd do a fresh install to my Macbook so I de-registered and deleted the local copy of BIAB off my mac. Installed the 2025 BIAB program locally, and also installed the 449-467 Realtracks, Additional Content 2025 PlusPAK and the 2025 Bonus 0pak by changing the location of those to add them to my external drive.

I'm pretty sure doing this with 2024 worked fine and I didn't have any problems all year. Now BIAB doesn't seem to find any of my realtracks off my USB. All my RealDrum sets can be found on the USB, but the RealTracks don't seem to be showing up. The folder is the same as previously used, and is 178gig on the USB. I have done numerous slow and fast rebuilds.

When I am in the "confirming and set folder for real tracks and real drums" dialogue box it does mention the folder I have pointed it to on the external drive has "4,084 Realtracks are found in folder" and "4,106 RealDrums are found in the folder" both on my USB in the appropriate BIAB / Realtracks and BIAB / Drums folders.

Drums seem to pop up and be discovered with no problems according to the "What add-ons do I have" option, but the realtracks just don't seem to appear and it is telling me I only have 4% of the realtracks found, which are:

RealTracks sets in /Volumes/SandDisk 256gb/Applications/Band-in-a-Box/RealTracks/ :
226- Requested Drums
229- Great Pop Drums and Percussion
238- Danny Gottlieb Jazz Drums
247- Country Brushes and Percussion
251- Traditional Celtic Percussion
262- Great Country Drums with Shannon Forrest
275- Retro 60s Drums
276- Pop Percussion
277- Pop and Rock Drums with Shannon Forrest
288- Southern Pop Drums with Land Richards
290- More Pop Percussion Singles
308- Djembe and more with with Keita Ogawa
316- More Southern Pop Drums with Land Richards
396- Wes Little Singer-songwriter mallets & cajon
401- Modern Jazz Drums with Mike Clark: Fusion & Funk
402- Modern Jazz Drums with Mike Clark: Swing & more
443- Miscellaneous Modern Grooves

The Directory is correct and has all the other realtrack files there from the previous releases.

Anyone have any idea what is going on? Have I done something wrong, or could it be a bug in the new 2025 software? Any help would be appreciated. Thought i'd post here, as i'm in Australia and BIAB help is open from 11:00pm until early morning here. I'll try and get in early in the morning, but was hoping someone can point me in the right direction to hopefully solve this issue.

The directory is correct…
Probably not.

This is normally caused by BIAB not knowing where those files are. Check your path in the window. Post a screen shot and one of us might see the problem.

The directories are correct, as far as I can see. They are pointed to the same folder I have used for 2023 and 2024 BIAB. I've attached a picture from the Set Realtracks and Realdrums screen, you can see it finds 4,084 realtracks in there and the folder is 150+ gigs.

The logfile of "Yellow and green" messages mentions the following (This was the first bootup) - but it is the same for following rebuilds:

[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in][Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in][Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]Are you using the Install Manager 1.0.97 or are you doing that manually?

Since the Installer finally works properly, I recommend using that. In the screen shot below, note that there's a new download for the Real Tracks sets in the last couple days.

Double-check to make sure that the path in the installer matches your two Settings windows. Here are mine.

I tried both methods. Initially I did it with the installer, and the path was correct (I'm not new to computers) exactly where you circled... it points to my external USB that I have been using for the last 2 years. When that didn't work, I tried installing it all manually and pointed the three new audio packs to the USB. That still didn't work for me.

You can see in my initial picture, the RealDrums and RealPack are in the same Band-In-A-Box location on the USB, but their own directories. That is where the files are located, and it detects the 4,000 odd Realtracks, I can see them there, and they were all working fine yesterday on the 2024 BIAB program. Only stopped being recognised when I installed 2025.

The directories are the same when you look at them in the confirm REaltrack/Drum folders, the picture I took, and the option screen you have included. I only did mine as it is simpler with one photo, but also shows that it does detect the realtracks there in that screen, where as in yours it doesn't have that information. I figured that was handy to see and know, since initially BIAB detects that the realtracks are there, but when I do a build it doesn't seem to find them.

Thats why I thought maybe it is actually a BIAB error in some way, rather than anything else. I'll try and revert back to 2023 and 2024, and see if it finds the files, then maybe upgrade to 2025 rather than install fresh and see what happens. But i'm pretty sure when I went from 2023 to 2024 I did the same thing and did a fresh install.

Just in case, the directory path to my USB is correct, and you can see it in the Install Manager.

So I think the directory is correct in this instance.

Although some here might argue, and it hasn't been an issue the last couple of years, I know this has helped me sort out some weird BIAB missing file issues over the years.

A typical BIAB installation is hundreds of thousands of files and folders and, especially if you are installing a newer versions over an older existing installation (which itself was probably written over an even older existing installation), sometimes file/folder permission errors can crop up.

This is what I have done in the past (which as I said, disclaimer: has helped me). smile

Select the folder of your BIAB installation in the Finder, right-click and do "Get Info" then...
1- click the padlock in the lower right , and enter your password.
2- click the + button in the lower left, select your name from the list, and give yourself "Read & Write" permission.
3- Click the gear icon and apply permissions to all enclosed items.

It will ask "are you sure ?" click yes, and wait a minute or two depending on how may files are in your BIAB folder.
Then I would try to rebuild the RealTrack list and see of your tracks are back.

As I say... I know there are others here who will say this is not necessary (and in theory it shouldn't be necessary).
But, I have had it happen over the years, where one individual installer will change the permissions on one folder and that's all it takes.

Hopefully this helps !

Jay has a point, this can easily be a Permissions issue. In Sonoma and Sequoia, it is not always enough to grant full permissions to youur remote drive. You may also have to drill down to the folder and do the same.

Run GetInfo on your external drive, then do the same on your folder. Click on your Owner name, then click on Apply to enclosed items in the drop-down and click ok in the popup window. Make sure that Ignore Ownership is also checked.

Thanks Mike and Jayo for giving it a go and spending your time helping me out, it really is appreciated.

Still couldn't get it to recognise the RealTracks. I ran BIAB off the USB and it recognised them all. Tried installing 2023 over the top and it still wouldn't recognise them all. Just for whatever reason it wouldn't recognise those realpacks installed on my local Macbook. Beats me as to why.

I ended up fixing the problem by totally uninstalling BIAB, including deleting the PG MUSIC in the Library/Application Support folder. Then I backed up my 2023 UltraPak+ HD to my NAS and the 256gig USB-C I use to run BIAB, as I wanted to keep that HD as an unused backup for emergencies (which just came in handy) and just have a second backup on my NAS - though it took a good 4-5 hours to copy everything over to each device with all those 100,000's of files. Installed the 2003 UltraPak+ from the USB, keeping all the Realtracks/Drums on the USB and that detected everything fine it recognised all the RealTracks after the complete wipe.. so used the install manager then to upgrade it all to 2024, and that was fine, and finally 2025 which now all seems fine.

I'm not sure where things went awry, but really do appreciate the time and effort both of you put in to try and help me out. So big thanks to both of you. Regarding the permissions, it was odd as my local copy didn't have my user account in the permissions and it told me I had custom permissions. I added my admin account to it, but unfortunately that didn't solve it, it was a great option to check that I didn't think about. But all back up and running now.

In case it matters, the name of the storage drive vendor is SanDisk. It's spelled SandDisk in your screenshot. Something like that could throw everything off.

This is the correct way to install a PlusPAK upgrade - the PlusPAKs require data from the previous version to work, not just the RealTracks folder, and will not find older RealTracks if installed on its own. Further, if the previous version was also a PlusPAK that will also require the preceding version of BB installed - repeat as necessary, starting by installing the most recent full UltraPAK.

Looking at your account, your 2024 version was also a PlusPAK, so it would have required your 2023 UltraPAK installed first.

What Simon says.

Those who do clean installs have to remember to install additional packs we have purchased in the past. From 2022 on, these can be found in the BIAB Install Manager but prior to that, they can be found and downloaded from our User Accounts.

As of 2025, the latest Version 1.0.97 of the Install Manager now remembers what has been installed.
