I was just venting.
I got one of their one year, no interest type credit cards back after Black Friday. I put $400 on it, the max they would give it to me for.
I paid $100 in January, $50 in February, and I was a couple of days late paying it this month, and they charged me like $46 in interest and late charges! So, instead of a balance of $250, I had, somehow, got a bill for $347!
I called them up and went into the store, and they said 'We dunno!' So, I just got really pissed, paid the whole thing off, lost about $100 as far as I'm concerned, and will never use WalMart again.

People don't realize that Walmart will soon control all we do in retail and with no where else to go you will go there or not eat, buy clothes, or anything else. That's what they want, and I will bet they will win, no one can stop them. I live close to Sheboygan Wi. and we have two Walmarts five miles a part and one west of us in Plymouth Wi, which is 12 miles west. Sheboygan fought to shoot down the Walmart on the north side, but Walmart won and here we are, two stores, five miles a part. Sheboygan doesn't even have over 300,000 people, so there you are, Walmart Hitler runs the USA!!!

It's not just WalMart, and it probably wasn't even WalMart's Credit Card. They contract credit operations out to other companies to service, but badge them with each store's logo. It's often Wells Fargo, and they're just nasty people to deal with.
I had a "same as cash" with HP's card (which was not serviced by HP) for an HP computer I purchased. I had been aggressively paying it off each month, but one of the payments was a few days late, because the bill got lost in the mail. I received a notice of a $35 fee and full back interest. It turns out it's all in the fine print of the agreement. They know (and I think expect) that most people will probably be late (even one day late) with a payment; doesn't matter that you've consistently been paying it down with 3 or 4 times the normal payment (which under normal plans means you may not even have a payment that month). But the "same as cash" (or no interest) offers specify that a certain payment must be made every month.
It's one of the ways they make their money and they know it.
By the way, for my problem, I called the servicing company and argued with them for an hour. They ended up taking the charges off, at which point, I sent in a check for the remaining balance and called them to close the account, never to to business with them again.

I have all my bills, water, electric, phone paid a month in advance. The balance is always zero. I know, bad cash management, but I love getting bills that say zero.

Gary, I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. HOWEVER, the situation you describe is nearly as old as the hills themselves.
Furniture and appliance stores are famous for this and have been doing this for literally decades. Interest free for one year - then BAM!!!!
Your first warning should have been: 'No interest credit'. That is NEVER the case. Never never ever never ever. 'Free' credit is paid for by folks like you - who thought they were minding the situation but forgot about the big due date. Miss that date and you'll pay dearly. This is the way it always works in these situations. Always. Count on it like clockwork.
Credit always costs somebody something. Unless you don't treat it like credit like John. In our family, we have 2 credit cards, an Amex and a MasterCard. Paid off every month. It's a check book to us. Interest paid last year on those cards, and previous 10 years or so: 0$. The only reason we have two is because we can use the Amex card at Costco and when we bought the big screen TV there, signing up for it gave us a $100 discount or something to that effect. We use the MC because we get a refund on the balance of a few bucks each month for using it. But we don't use them as credit for more than a 20 day period or so.
Caveat Emptor.
As Jford stated, the bank who made the terms probably has nothing to do with Wal-Mart nor the local people of your community that are employed there.

John is correct, I was just venting.
Yes Scott, I should have known better. So, it's paid off and I won't use their credit services again. Of course, I will shop there, I almost don't have a choice. Besides, I know it wasn't WalMart, it's GE Financial.

Hi Gary,When I tried to purchased biab from Pgmusic my Barclays visa card kept getting declined which was an error on Barclays part not mine.Without thinking I paid it with my new Virgin card which meant i not only went over the limit which cost me £12 but was charged £47 interest.I complained to Virgin about my mistake and asked them to refund these amounts back to me which after some back and forth they did.MBNA was the finance company and Ive had some bad dealings with them in the past but on this occassion they were great.Frankie

I actually make money on my credit card. Its one of those 0.5% money back cards, paid off in full each mth so no interest payments, and they send me money vouchers every 2-3 mth which can be spent in store on anything.

I have heard that if you add up the numbers for all banks in the USA (and I presume the situation is similar for Canada), they make more money in penalty fees than they do for interest.

I have both an Aeroplan Visa from the Bank of Commerce and a cash back Visa.
Both of them charge 16 percent on balances, I just keep them paid off.
I spend enough to get 2% cash back on the one.

GE Financial and Wells Fargo are awful to deal with.
I'm with Scott on this one. We have a CostCo Amex and a Visa with our local bank (maybe a few other cards, but not many). All are paid in full every month. We pretty much funnel everything through the Amex, since we get a percentage back. It pays 1%, 2%, and 3% back, depending on what we are buying or where we are shopping. I haven't paid interest on a credit card in almost 20 years now and we get a significant check from Amex each year. Not bad, since it's all stuff we would have bought anyway.
We've closed all our other accounts, as well as making sure that fact is reflected in our credit report.

I have used numerous 'no interest; no payment' plans, and have had no problems, as they do not require any monthly payments. No interest at all if the complete balance is paid for by the ending date. Of course, if you don't pay off ALL of the balance by the ending date, you will be charged ALL of the acquired interest from day one.
I closed a credit card recently that had a bad habit of sending my bills late, however, it's not a good idea to close accounts that aren't causing problems as it's a hit on your credit score for awhile. Keeping a bunch of accounts in good order is the best way to obtain good credit scores. That doesn't mean charging a lot of stuff every month, but using the cards a few times a year usually works fine.
So much depends on your credit score nowadays that guarding it like a hawk makes a lot of sense. I made a resolution in 2008 to have all of my debt, except for my vehicle and house, paid off by 01/01/2009. I did it, but not without some effort and denial and sacrifice; however it was well worth it. My car is at zero interest, so I didn't see a real advantage of paying that off early.

Axe, I was under the impression that this is what that was, a 'no interest, no payment' for 12 months type of a thing. I had expected to have it totally paid off inside of six months, but it turns out I was wrong.
Yes, closing a paid off account *can* affect your credit rating, depending on a lot of things. This was only a $400 account, and I doubt that it'll take that much of a hit on my credit report, and I don't feel comfortable leaving it open.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library.
