Another Ive been tasked with by a local muso. He wanted a bluesy/rock/country song about regret, so I came up with this a few months ago and have been steadily working on it.......I think its about there now.

Its basically a demo with AI vocals (way out of my vocal range lol) but in truth Im fairly happy with how its come out.

The Whiskeys Gonna Kill Me
Words/Music (c) P McNaught
BIAB 2025
Mixcraft Pro Studio 10
Suno AI Vocals

LYRICS

[Verse 1]
The bottle sits there calling, like it knows my name,
Every pour a memory, every sip a shame.
The mirror shows a stranger, a man I barely know,
The whiskey's got its hold on me, won't ever let me go.

[Verse 2]
The nights are getting longer, and the dawn feels cold,
Dreams of better days are stories I've been told.
She left with her suitcase, left me with this pain,
Now all I'm holding onto’s the devil’s amber chain.

[Chorus]
The whiskey's gonna kill me, I can feel it in my bones,
A warmth that burns too bitter, leaving me alone.
Each swallow pulls me closer to where the shadows lie,
The whiskey's gonna kill me, but I still can't say goodbye.

[Verse 3]
The jukebox plays her song, I dare not sing along,
The barstools wear my sorrow, it's where I know I belong.
Every friend I had's departed, couldn't watch me fade,
Now I raise a glass to failure, in the choices that I made.

[Verse 4]
The bartender’s a preacher, with words I won't heed,
He's seen men like me crumble, succumbing to the need.
But it ain't about salvation, it's not about the fight,
The whiskey’s got me drowning, and I think that feels alright.

[Chorus]
The whiskey's gonna kill me, I can feel it in my bones,
A warmth that burns too bitter, leaving me alone.
Each swallow pulls me closer to where the shadows lie,
The whiskey's gonna kill me, but I still can't say goodbye.

Hi Peter!
While neither country nor whiskey are my thing, you have written a very enjoyable song that even this non-country fella can enjoy - it just flows so well (metaphor alert) like a hand in a glove.
Good work!

PS I let the tape keep rolling and also loved the vid of your live work on ‘The long road home’. Playing for people to dance to is such a great joy for a musician.

Pete,

That's a good song. Great demo and that AI vocal is pretty convincing. Nice production as well.

Pete, yep, THAT's a COUNTRY song. Well done! Very impressive BiaB arrangement. Are you producing these songs in BiaB? The video LOOKS like that's what you're doing, and that's REAL impressive, too. (Am I using enough UPPERCASE? YES, I THINK I AM.) Anyway...you've really got that modern country sound down...or DOWN.

Biab + AI vocals give a sheen of convention and prefab to the package but that's doesn't disguise a decent melody and narrative nor is a bad thing in the ears of most listeners.
Do people still drink whiskey?

Absolutely brilliant song and production. Mega-impressive. It's had to believe that the Suno AI vocals aren't real.

This is a lesson in songwriting. Fabulous song. Love it. The verse melody is memorable and the chorus is killer: it takes off from the verse and soars.

Andrew, thank you so much buddy. Now as for the video of The Long Road Home, that in fact is my old band mate Micky D performing it, unfortunately I very rarely perform live nowadays due to work commitments..... Kinda hard to gig when most of your life is spent living in a truck lol.

Thank you Bob, much appreciated. AI is certainly getting more convincing and starting to lose a lot of the artifacts.

Thanks Ron, the way I work is to create track within the box then I transfer all my stems/vocals etc to my DAW where I do the production side of things, then I make a video of the BIAB playing through and sync up the processed audio to the video. Hope this answers your question..... It's a bit long-winded but works for me👍
