Soundcloud - Sign Up Today feat. Tilted Halo
I posted this song back on 18 July (click here) then received an offer from Tilted Halo (Beth) to record a version, and this thread is Beth’s version. I love it!
Hearing it has brought out some great aspects - colour and shades…
- Beth’s voice has much more empathy and nurturing, which is a good fit for the theme
- The harmonies in the chorus are wonderful - particularly in the passage I mention next
- The line “It’s easy to ignore it all, and better to break down the walls” better brings out the melody and the chord change from major to minor
Beth’s version has more space in it (more intimate), because I normally surround my own singing with instruments and harmonies to support it (a.k.a. hide the warts).

Thank you Beth!

LYRICS
INTRO

VERSE 1
You grew your wings, did all the things but you ain’t going nowhere
You practiced your flapping, but with no chance to fly
Though you learned to sing, didn’t mean a thing with no-one to hear you
And here you are without guitar and you’re wondering why?

PRE-CHORUS
You’re turning the handle but the doors are closed
The party’s raging and you’re stuck at home
No-one’s listening and your mind’s about to explode

CHORUS
Sign up today to love sign up today to kindness
It’s easy to ignore it all, but better to knock down the walls
That hold us back and keep us apart

Sign up today for hope say goodbye to blindness
You have to seek the best in all, lifting up those prone to fall
Do your best to find the common ground
Sign up today

VERSE 3
You honed your skills through many a drill, but with no chance to use them
You thought you could flourish, but you’re withered and dry
Not all around you are not as affected
You’re tied to the ground, and not able to rise

PRE-CHORUS
You’re saving your money and your balance has grown
There’s many like you so you’re not alone
No-one’s listening and you’re still left without a home

CHORUS
Sign up today to love sign up today to kindness
It’s easy to ignore it all, but better to knock down the walls
That hold us back and keep us apart

Sign up today for hope say goodbye to blindness
You have to seek the best in all, lifting up those prone to fall
Building bridges and being kind, reaching out without losing your mind
Do your best find the common ground

I liked the song, and, of course, the message in the lyric. And you can't do better than Beth on vox. Great work.

Andrew and Beth, this is a great song with a powerful message.
Great vocal and harmonies
Super arrangement and mix
I hope you two do more songs like this.

A great new version ~ though I also liked your original. Well done both of you.

Thanks for allowing me to experiment with it, Andrew. I knew those harmonies were in there and I felt compelled to pull them out.

Sign up today with Tilted Halo!! Oh, yeah, where do I sign? What a great team! Beth, I always loveyour vocals and this one is over-the-top good. Cool response BGV. Andrew, this is a terrific write. I like the melody and of course the lyrics. Thanks for doing this one again, Beth. Yeah, no warts there, but then I didn't hear them on your version either, Andrew.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I already liked your original version, but Beth's vocals take it to a whole new level.
It's always good to have a great singer on hand.

Hi, Andrew and Beth.

It looks like I missed the first version.

Nice write, good vocals, lovely backing and chord progression.

Very pretty! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Well, this turned out great, didn't it? Solid song, and Beth is (obviously) a talented vocalist and interpreter. Super band and I like the mix a lot, too. Sign me up! Today!
