As usual, I used the JAZFRED Realstyle. I sang and played the harmonica.

Lyrics:

I don't know if there's a heaven,
Seems illogical at best,
But when I'm hanging with you,
You've such celestial zest,
I could float among the cloud lines
where you habitually nest
And I hope you won't perceive me
As some planetary pest.

I've heard that clouds are nothing more than plots of ice,
But if that's where we're headed I'm sure it'll be real nice.

I've no halo you should know that, but I hope they let me in,
Among the clouds where you do roam and the air is mighty thin.

I might start to think that heaven
Is a realistic state,
Cuz that is where you send me
When you cutely make me wait
I like everything about you, but I don't think I accept
The notion that the stratosphere is where your kind are kept

The truth is I don't buy the concept don't you see
But it's a sweet conceit that keeps you placed upon my knee

I don't know if there's a heaven,
Seems illogical at best,
It's only here when you are near
My dear, theistic quest.

Very much fun, Bob. Fun changes, fun lyrics, fun band, fun vocal and all topped off with that wonderful harp. The vocal reminds me of someone famous but I can't think of who. Maybe it's just the fame I assume in you. hehe

Enjoy whatever happens!

For obvious reasons, I like your lyrics.
A lot!
Jazz isn't usually my thing, but I really like how you get the message across, and it seems like you always have a little smile on your face when you sing.

Super write, Bob! Your vocals and harp perfectly serve the song. Nicely arranged and mixed, too. JAZFRED is a mighty fine RealStyle and you've put it to great use here.

I find myself seated with my lovely lady at the hottest venue in town...the "Forum Playhouse Jazz Club". Only "A" listers gain admission to this exclusive club so all forum members qualify! There's a certain je ne sais quoi in the air tonight – a delightful cocktail of lingering cigar smoke, hushed anticipation, and the faint scent of impending sonic glory.
And the reason for this delightful demographic fusion? None other than the jazzmeisters themselves, "The Velvet Tunemongers"! This is my third consecutive evening succumbing to their intoxicating brilliance. My therapist says it's a phase; I say it's destiny .
And then there's the man, the myth, the legend himself: "Tunemonger," the maestro at the helm. He's not just hitting notes; he's caressing them, coaxing them into submission with a voice smoother than a well-aged single malt. And don't even get me started on his "tin sandwich" feast – he doesn't just play the harmonica, he seduces it, extracting sounds that could make a statue weep.
The whole ensemble – vox, keys, bass, and drums – is tighter than a drum solo in an elevator. This isn't just a band; it's a perfectly calibrated jazz classic machine, each cog spinning in velvety synchronicity.
So, I implore you, fellow aficionados of the finer things: dust off those "glad rags," polish those "dancing shoes," and join us in this temple of cool. The Velvet Tunemongers await, ready to melt your hearts and fill your soul. And yes, consider the first round of Whiskey Highballs on me – because after a night like this, you'll need something to wash down the sheer, unadulterated musical bliss.

You're nailing this stuff Bob

Love it

Izzy

Izzy, you really made my day with this review! What a terrific writer you are! Very clever and brought a huge smile to my face. Seriously, this is getting printed out and tacked in front of my desk for when I'm thinking, as I often do, that I have no business singing. I'll never think otherwise, but I'm glad you and others here are so supportive. BTW, two out of my last four jazz vocals that I posted reached number one on Soundclick. While I realize the BIAB forum hits have a lot to do with that, it's still very cool.

Izzy, you need to write a novel. I'll gladly be a beta reader. You can both write a book and make music. Make it happen!

(Thanks again dude!)

Greg,

Good to hear from you, been wondering how you are. I got on Spotify a couple weeks back and listened to quite a few of your songs. One day I will make it through the whole list, but you've got over 50 songs and I never quite make it. I'd love to collab again, I just need to come up with a killer tune for you. When I do, I'll send it your way! Thanks for the good review.

BobL, Bob Dean, Beth, Marty, BD, Mario, Floyd, Ron:

Thanks so much for the support. Believe me, it's much needed. I know my voice is marginal at best, but hopefully I make up for it in other ways. With a little luck, I'll find a crooner someday who will sing my jazz tunes, and all will be well. Thanks again, folks!

Hi Bob,

I'm trying to get back in the fold.

i think you know i love this kind of music. i do think the vocal volume could come down just a bit. Other than that, this is a real Germ! There's absolutely nothing wrong with your vocal, I simply think it's just a wee bit too forward in the mix. But the quality of your vocal is exceptional.

Two singers from the 60s came to mind almost immediately: 1. Vic Damone. 2. Dean Martin. i thjink either of them could have slayed this. It's a great song, and your version is exceptional. I just mentioned those two gentlemen, so you'd have an idea how the song came across to me. The TuneMonger version rates pretty danged high, too!

Take care,

Alan

Hi Rob,

Absolutely loved it.

Loved the sexy vocals- I think this may be a new technique for you. Definitely worth progressing.

Chromonica - sensational. Beautiful tone and beautifully played. I wish upon wish that PGMusic would include a few Chromonica Real Tracks. They must be in swing time, with a Jazzy feel and at 120, 140 and 160BPM.

I think you have hit on a winner here Rob and I look forward to the next swinging Jazz song from you.

Best Regards
Nigel

Very nice stuff. You have a real talent for this style of music. ly

There's a nice flow to the phrasing on the lyrics. Unique in the way you sing some of those words syllable by syllable, but like I said, it works.

Harmonica in Jazz.... very nice. I guess jazz and blues tend to be cousins so why not?

They ( i don't know who "they" are) say the harmonica is one of the easiest instruments to learn.... well, I tried and that didn't hold true for me. The harmonica was in the key of "A" but it's also slightly sharp so I couldn't use it easily in recording without tuning everything else to it which can be tedious, or melodyning it. You played it well.

You can find my music at:
www.herbhartley.com
Add nothing that adds nothing to the music.
You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Thanks, Alan, for applying your exceptional ear to this. It will be easy to do a version with lowered volume, but I think my biggest problem is my untreated room. I considered a portable vocal booth, but they are expensive and bulky.

Frank Sinatra is famous for saying Vic Damone was the best of his era. There is a crooner on fiverr who would've really done this justice, but when inflation hit, the cost of vocalists went up as well. I was priced out of the game. Synth V has yet to put out a crooner voice, if they do, I will probably give that a go. (though I'm dreading the learning curve).

Thanks again, I know you're still grieving. We all hope time, music and friends will heal you.

Nigel, thanks so much for the great review. Yes, a pro chromatic harmonica RT would be fantastic. There is a great Canadian chromatic player named WIll Galison who could make a great RealTrack. Jason Keene, who goes by bluesbop, would also be terrific. It would be great if PG did this. Thanks again for your support, it means a lot, especially since I know you love old jazz.

Herb,

Thanks for your very kind review. Tuning is a huge problem with harmonicas. Pro players always have techs who tune their harmonicas, and then the player himself is checking his harps before each gig. If a harp is out of tune, he has to scrape a little material off the reed if it is flat, or add a little material if it is sharp (blue tape or nail polish). The work is like gemcutting. On top of that, it is still possible to blow too hard and get out of tune. I'm no pro, I just play and hope for the best. Sometimes I can blow a bad note into tune if my wits are about me, and I've occasionally used Waves Tune in post. You might order a custom harp from joespiers.com, it will be in tune and then I'm sure with your skills you will learn it in no time.
