How are folks using Synth V? I've been using it as a standalone, exporting my tracks from RB, then importing them into Synth V Studio Pro. It seems like it should work as a plugin, and I've been able to open it up that way, but don't seem to be able to fully use it like other plugins... Im looking for any tips or suggestions.

I've always used it as a stand alone.
I import my stems into SV, work on the vocal and export it as a WAV. I then import the WAV into the project in Sonar.

Thanks Herb...I do that too..was looking for more integration, but I think I';ll stick with the simpler approach! Yes. I like to keep things simple and straightforward. However, as much as I like working this way and used to do the same thing essentially with BB/RB, I have changed my way of working. I used to create the songs in BB and render the tracks from RB before I exported them to a folder and then eventually into my DAW. On a whim one day, I decided to try the BB plugin. That changed how I work totally. It saved a few steps in the process and allowed me to simply drag the wav into my DAW. I now use this all the time. Along with that train of thought, perhaps it's time to see what the SV plugin looks like and see if it's a more viable way to work efficiently. Since I had stopped using SV for the last several months for my singers, I kind of put that experiment on the back burner. Since I am in between projects currently, maybe it's time to play around and experiment.

One thing I like about using each tool for one purpose it that it keeps me focused. I'll find a core style in BiaB, and work out a basic arrangement. Then I'll export a backing track into SynthV and work out the melody. Then it'll all go to the DAW to create a final mix. I'll occasionally bounce back between BiaB and SynthV is the arrangement needs to be updated, or if I need to change the key. That's not a big deal. I'll often go between the DAW and SynthV if I decide that the melody, words or harmonies need to be changed. That actually continues even after I post the song. It helps that when I render the vocals out in SynthV and toggle back to the DAW, it automatically loads the new files. So there's not really any loss in efficiency. I could learn to use the BiaB plugin, since it seems useful. But because I'm running SynthV in stand-alone mode, it's useful for it not to be integrated into the DAW. But whatever works for people!

I recently bought the Synth V upgrade and upgraded all of my voices but haven't had time to do much with it yet. My general approach in the past has been,
1) write basic lyrics and basic melody
2) enter chords into BIAB, generate some tracks and export to WAVs
3) generate additional tracks from EZ or NI
4) play and record additional instrument tracks
5) record my own vocals and decide if I like them for the song
6) if I do like my vox I'll continue to refine everything in my DAW (Reaper)
7) if I don't like my vocals or I need additional parts for harmonies or duets that is when I bring in Synth V
8) when I use Synth V I try to start by having it convert my vocals to MIDI but fixing the results is sometimes more tedious than just putting in the notes directly!
On my last song I tried bringing Synth V into the process early on. As soon as I got a rough backing track done I entered notes for the melody and lyrics into Synth V to develop the song before investing in all the other areas. For the final version I replaced the Synth V vocals with my own but they still helped me write the song.
Oh and, on the subject of using these tools together, I NEVER do that! I find every one of these tools has a heaping helping of quirks and bugs and they all work differently! For me it is a lot easier to use the tools individually and deal with all that one tool at a time rather than chase bugs between multiple programs when loaded together!

As always, I'm the outlier, using the Synth V plugin directly in Cubase. It's much more practical to have the vocals in context (other tracks, processing chain (especially reverb) and always at hand in case changes are needed. Works for me, and if you have a computer that is fast enough for it.

As always, I'm the outlier, using the Synth V plugin directly in Cubase. Just so you don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, I use it as a plugin also, albeit in SONAR.
