I have a quick question for all you real musicians when it comes to writing music notation. I probably have a 4th grade level and this is beyond my knowledge. Sad but true.
I have a friend who played guitar but now has hand problems so he switched to piano and is just starting out with about 2 months of experience. The question is, what is the proper way to write triads out on the grand staff. He is using MuseScore for software. He was using the "A" Minor triad as his example. He started the "A" note on the Bass Clef below Middle "C". The next note "C" was automatically placed in the middle C position between the Bass & Treble Clef when entered as it should be, but the "E" note instead of being placed on the 1st line of the Treble Clef, was placed on an automatically generated ledger line right above Middle C.

His question to me was twofold. (1) What is the proper way to write it and (2) is there a way in MuseScore to NOT have a ledger line added above Middle "C" but instead have the "E" note placed on the bottom line of the Treble Clef.

I use the latest Musescore and it worked OK here. But all your friend has to do is to change the mouse cursor to an arrow (on the far left just before the notes) and drag the E to the first line of the treble clef.
There are a few ways to write Am: 1-in the root position A-C-E 2-in the second inversion, that is using the second note of the triad as the lowest note - C-E-A 3-in the third inversion using the third note as the lowest note - E-A-C 4-Each of the individual notes can be in any octave such as A in the base clef, C in the 3th space of the treble clef, and the E in the forth space of the treble clef. 5-Also they can be in any configuration, i.e. A-E-C etc. Any combination of A-C-E notes is a always Am.

The the image you show with two leger lines between the Bass and trebal Clef (the Grand Staff) is NOT standard piano notation. That, plus it just looks weird to me for piano.
Now In regards to Muscore: Yes, you can adjust the number of ledger lines displayed between the bass and treble clefs in MuseScore, but it's important to understand how MuseScore handles ledger lines and how to adjust spacing between staves to achieve your desired appearance. I would refer you to the MuseScore manual.

IIRC MuseScore stays on the staff on which the first note was entered. If you wish to change staves, I think you need temporarily to stop entering notes (N or Esc or some such) and start entering again by clicking first on the other staff.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11 BIAB2025 Audiophile, a bunch of other software. Kawai MP6, Ui24R, Focusrite Saffire Pro40 and Scarletts .
Gordon is correct, you cannot directly drag and drop a single note from one staff to another in MuseScore 4. However, you can achieve a similar effect for cross-staff notation by using the following method: 1) Enter the notation in one staff first. 2) Select the note or notes that you wish to move to the other staff. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + ↓ (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + ↓ (Mac) to move the selected notes down to the staff below. If you want to move them to the staff above, use ↑ instead of ↓.
I checked, when I use my keyboard to enter an Am triad, on the bass cleff, it defaults to the image you show. So then you just need to use the method shown to move the selected notes to the Treble Cleff.
